• ASX is fine. Bit agricultural, but does everything we wanted it to well. Not auto tho. Loads of space in a fairly compact body.

Was substantially better value than all the other options we looked at for the same price (£10k) which is why we went for it. I liked the Yeti, but we would have had to spend an extra £5k or so to get one with a similar spec and comparable low mileage.

They are all more or less the same TBH. Let’s face it, this type of car isn’t exactly ground breaking or exhilarating to drive. I’d just say test drive all the ones you’re interested in, and go for whichever you like the best for your own reasons, whatever they are.

I think that’s all I’ll get away with saying without being shouted at for droaning on about an affordable and practical car that doesn’t go 175mph and cost £5k a year to maintain and make 95% of the population think you are a total cunt.

  • Except Defenders, which are always cool.

    And the Porsche 959.

    But otherwise yeh.

G Wagens were also cool until they got adopted as a car for LdnWnkrz a few years ago.

  • My GF is a midwife and travels around rural areas of Somerset for home births at all hours of the day/night 365 days a year, in all manner of weather. Light flooding and waterlogged lanes in winter is the main issue she has to deal with, although she did have some issues with ice and snow last winter.

Babies don’t wait to come out until it’s nice and sunny and the road to the farmhouse in the middle of nowhere is clear.

I ride my bike to work. I did drive the ASX to London once though, and it was actually a lot nicer to drive around the city than our old mini was.

But obviously we totally should have bought a 10 year old RS6 with 180k on the clock tho, cos that would have been like, way, more practical.
