Ha! Not sure it's possible to design out that level of stupidity.

Yeah it's not the greatest planning and a wider middle lane would probably be easier for cyclists, especially when turning in from the other road (although scaffolding and bin lorries sometimes block most of that section in the mornings and you can only just squeeze down one side using whichever cutout gives you the space); I think it's not that way to prevent cars chancing it as in the above post but the middle bollard can be dropped out, I assume for emergency vehicles. For that reason you need to have a quick look ahead if you want to use that road though just to make sure nobody's coming the other way; this guy was on autopilot and got grumpy when he was snapped out of his reverie.

Had to go to the bank, the receptionist let me bring in the Brompton and guarded it, so all good.
Ended up chatting with a fellow cyclist at a traffic light...one that doesn't turn green when they are no cars near it.
After 2 cycles we ended up using the pedestrian green, as it was just not changing.
Then it started raining, par for the course. Nobody tried to kill me, or gave me aggro. So 10/10 commute judging by all the stories I am reading here lately :/

So it finally happened to me.
Approaching a junction, side road to my left before the lights. The left lane for straight on, right lane for a filter light. One oncoming lane, with two No Right Turn signs.
I'm in primary in left hand lane, there is stationary traffic in the right hand lane. Oncoming car driver cuts through the stationary traffic, ignoring the two No Right Turn signs.....and hits me, I'm travelling at ~20mph, lights have just turned green in front of me.
Managed to get driver license/details/a ride in ambulance. Driver left before police arrived.
Cracked rib and bruised calcaneus plus general cuts, bruises and pain. Pringled wheel, bent handlebars, bent crank arms, and assorted gouges and scratches.
0/10

Sorry to hear about this. If you're up to it, get a lawyer, push for a conviction. Ignoring no right turn signs (especially 2!) is dangerous driving and deserves punitive action.

Thanks guys, I did have to laugh, the police turned up with a ride-along chaplain. Thought my goose was cooked.

Cycling home up Holloway Road last night I noticed 20mph signs on the road and at the side of the road. Not that anyone drives anywhere near that speed except for in the camera zones. Then I wondered, have these signs always been there, has it always been 20mph on this stretch of the Holloway Road?
I have come to the conclusion that the average motorist is physically incapable of driving at this speed :(

My commute these days consists of walking to and from school.
I'm pretty involved with school, particularly with road safety stuff. I'm also the chair of our PTA and Parent's Forum, so feel relatively well mandated to have a polite word with any car drivers who park in illegal and dangerous places around school. Double parking, on the yellow zig zags etc. It's usually begrudgingly well received and I get the feeling that things are getting better.
Yesterday I spoke to the driver of a car that had parked in the zig zags, politely pointing out that her parking was illegal and dangerous and also that there were many legal spaces less than 50m up the road. She totally blanked me. I asked her if she felt selfish? Blanked me. So I took a picture of her car, and her, making sure the registration plate was visible. I informed her that I could report her to the police. Nothing. I left and did nothing.
This morning, she drove past me and shouted out of the window "Did you report me to the police then?". Obviously she drove off without waiting for a reply. I think she was laughing but couldn't be sure.
It annoyed me.
I reported her to roadsafe, who subsequently contacted me and asked for the pictures. Which I have supplied.
No need to be rude, is there?

Well she asked for it, silly person.

He also waved at every single car on the way presumably because he thought they were unaware of him.
I've seen bad drivers/cyclists before, but usually it's one incidence of extremely poor judgement; this guy seems like he's deliberately trying to get himself killed.
I'm tempted to report him to the police but the video's pretty poor as it was dark and obviously there's no way to actually figure out who he is. Should I do it anyway?
Sorry about that. I am an idiot sometimes.

I thought that was the case but I don't know if it's necessarily true. Pentonville Road, City Road doesn't seem to. At least there are no signs saying it is 20mph.
They may as well piss in the wind, for all the good it does -

To help make roads safer for all, 66d5669271584ed080b12f06798b9539Islington Council introduced a 20mph speed limit on all its streets.
The 20mph limit was supported by residents and road safety groups. The council hopes to change the driving culture in Islington towards lower speeds, and is asking drivers to help and respect the new limit.
Speeding is a criminal offence, and can cause road accidents. Last year 100 people were either killed or seriously injured on Islington's main road network, and the council wants to bring this number down through reducing speeds to a more appropriate level for inner London.
All roads in Islington have a 20mph speed limit except for the few routes managed by Transport for London, such as Upper Street and Holloway Road.
From their press release. TfL roads don't have the limit, sadly.

These bastards do it all the time outside my kids school and it makes me sick. I point out to them how moronic they are being, it doesn't always go down well though

Ahh that explains it then. The lower portion of Holloway Road seems to be 20mph but once you get to Upper Holloway the signs disappear and it is not really clear what the speed limit is.
Pentonville and City Road must also be tfl roads, perhaps because they are part of the London Ring Road

Just be grateful he's not behind the wheel of a car.

School run parking be like "let's park on the dropped kerb just outside the school grounds" so I can see f-all when I need to come out of the junction.
Hallions.
It’s probably like that to avoid tempting fvcktards to squeeze a car through the middle.
