are they worth it
No, there's lighter/stronger/cheaper
-
• #8028
That's what I like to hear! Might go with the Kinlin XC-279 ones instead then and save 60 odd pounds
-
• #8029
Spend a bit more and get xr22t rims so they're officially tubeless ready rather than ghetto. Also wider than the XC279, I think.
Or DT Swiss R460s.

Haven't bought wheels in an age, so didn't even consider going tubeless. Might as well though seeing as everything will be compatible and the xr22ts are the same price as xc279s at spacycles. Thanks!

Does anyone know when the new Mavic Open Pro UST Exalith is due for release? Has it been canned, or just delayed?

They will be available six months from now. This answer is valid regardless of when you read it :)

I think @thecycleclinic has them

Kinlin XR31T deeper than XR22T and are nice. Hunt Wheels use lots of them.
-
• #8036
The XR31Ts end up being a lot spendier than the XR22Ts though. XR22Ts are 35 quid a go from Spa Cycles, XR31Ts are 55 quid a go from thecycleclinic or 60 quid a go from Superstar with limited drillings available. I like the XR31Ts - I've got two wheelsets using those rims - but equally the XR22Ts (or at least the disc wheel offset version, the XR22 RTS OCR) did a fine job on my touring bike this summer, and on @Cycliste's bike.

True, XR22T more what the OP's spec calls for. But note that @cycleclinic has the XR31T in most drillings, even an 18H which works very nicely with a Dura Ace front hub

Thanks, I will have a look at them as well. But yeah, as danstuff said, I would prefer to spend less if possible, as it's all going to add up once I've included racks/bags/dynamo lights etc. Not going to start buying things until the new year, so have a bit of time to think (/ start saving)

I'm after some new disc road/cx wheels that are fashionably wide, tubeless and relatively light. Currently look at the Hunt 4Season Gravel, 'Borg 22' from thecycleclinic or a pair of DCR wheels. There doesn't seem to be a lot in it in terms of spec or price. The Hunts seem to come with a few extra bits. Factory built option would be Kinesis Crosslight, particularly as the new ones are 26mm wide and slight cheaper than the aforementioned wheels.
Anyone with comparative experience of the above?
The wildcard option would be to get some 50mm chinese crabon wheels...

DT Swiss R24 Spline DB?
Great value for money: came with TL tape fitted (and a roll of spare), TL valves, 6-bolt converters, CL lockrings, and endcaps for QR and two sizes of TA.
Check what you're buying though: not every model year seems to be so generous. I think the ones I got were 2016.

I got 2000 miles out of them with 3 broken spokes and a knackered freehub. Really wasn't that impressed. The extra bits were nice, I suppose...
I've still got them and will likely use the front when I get a disc fork for my fixed gear (soon, hopefully!).
Edit: I ended up with Chinese 50mm carbons and have had absolutely no issues with them :)

That's disappointing, to say the least.
I hope my customer has better luck...

Probably worth noting that I'm about 90kg (and was a little heavier then) and I've also heard quite a lot of good things about them, so it seems others have had good experiences with them.

• #8044
I'd read good things about them: Tstr approved I think!

Tstr approved
I haven't put much mileage on them, probably around 500, but I'm even fatter than turtlerecall and I ride as much gravel as pavement. So far so good. They're probably not wide enough and the bead seat profile could be better for tubeless duty.
@jzk seems to be shopping at a price point a good 50% above R24s

@dancing james what wheels do you have on the Synapse?

Reynolds assault

tubeless? thru axle? I just bought these (havent paid, will need to in March when the frame gets shipped) as they were cheap. Almost as much as a similar light bicycle wheelset and come with lifetime warranty and decent crash replacement.
Canyon has a cheaper version thats 16mm internal 2015/16 I think which is not tubeless, I was just wondering if you have the same rim profile as those ^ (19mm internal) and how you find it.

Mine are standard QR as that is what the mamil chariot requires.
Tubeless of course

Mine are the assault slg
Can't find a touring/commuting wheel thread, so will post here - let me know if there's anywhere better.
I'm looking at making my old touring bike into a commuter/weekend tourer, and am trying to decide on wheels. I'm thinking Shimano 105 rear hub and SP Dynamo PV8, but am unsure about what rims to choose. The hipster in me says to get Archetypes, but these are nearly double the price of all the other rims on spacycles - are they worth it, or will they just make the bike more of a target for thieves? I'm looking for a wide rim to fit 32c gravelkings
