• Noticing that there's the new DT Swiss R470DB rim it's got me wondering about a wheelset I have hanging around not doing anything - a set of HED Ardennes Plus LT.

I was thinking this morning while commuting in that as I've no use for them yet and don't see that situation changing (they're 12x100/12x142 and I've no suitable frame) then maybe it makes sense to flip them. Then in the future when I actually do need something I could pick up the R470 rims easily enough and a decent set of hubs, e.g. some DT swiss 350 or Hope RS4 hubs.

My question really is, are the HEDs really gonna be that astoundingly good that it's just worth keeping them around in case?

I guess it's too early for R470 reviews but the R460s seemed alright. DT wheelbuilder puts the weight around 60g heavier but with pretty standard Competition spokes which isnt enough difference to sway things either way for me. So it's down to other unfathomables like stiffness, feel as well as more easily accesible things such as ease and cost of replacement rims, hub parts etc.

  • Because at the mo' it doesnt really solve anything doing that, my 9x100/9x135 standard bike already has wheels and until I stop falling off it, it doesnt need anything better than what it has :o

So it'd still be the case of a set of wheels sat about. If I order today though the cheapest I could get the adapters for would be 70eur from the US.

I'm just kind of mulling if that's money well spent or not. I'm a bit of a hoarder, recoup the money now and spend later on something - possibly just as good - or keep on hoarding if they're really that amazing, is what I'm wondering.
