  • I can't stand gin and vermouth. I don't understand their popularity.

That is because you are a forrin. Probably don't drink tea either.

  • @hippy

    2 oz of rye whiskey
    1 tsp of maple syrup
    dash of angostura bitters

Stir into a tumbler until the syrup dissolves. Add ice and a twist of orange peel

    Enjoy.

  • Tea is a waste of good water.

  • Where's the pancakes?

  • Save the pancakes to stave off the next days hangover.

  • Oi fatty, eatin's cheatin'!

  • Where can I get a Mai Tai in west London?

This tropical weather has got me a thirst for something Hawaiian*.

  • Ha!

Ask and ye shall receive. :)

  • Minor dredge

The missus was banging on about a cocktail she had in Dirty Bones (mutts nuts) so I had a go at making one at home.

    60ml Bourbon
    20ml maple syrup
20ml lemon juice (I use the stuff normal reserved for pancake Day)
    Dash of bitters
Shake the shit out of it in a Boston shaker filled with ice
Strain over ice with a strip of orange peel.
    Drink
    Repeat

Oh, just seen it's a more pathetic version of what Aroogah posted up there.
It's very drinkable for those that like their booze less boozy.

  • Since my last post in here I tried to be good and get rid of all my beer but then I caved and finally bought a pile of cocktail kit and bottles of booze for them. So now I'm totally going to have to make that.

  • Last thing I made (after stating I hate gin) was a Beez Kneez (not exactly this recipe but similar):

50ml Gin (GF recommends Bathtub Gin or Tanqueray No.TEN)
    2 teaspoons honey
    20ml fresh lemon juice
    20ml fresh orange juice
(Adapted from Diffordsguide Cocktails, The Bartender’s Bible. 10th Edition).

Add gin and honey to a shaker and stir until the honey dissolves. Add the lemon and orange juice and top up with ice. Shake well. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with an orange zest twist. As an alternative, try pouring the cocktail on the rocks – it’s not quite the same but it’s perfect for the occasions where either you (or a guest) is wants a touch more dilution as the ice helps break up the sweetness and allows the cocktail to loosen up a little.

  • Our drinks cabinet is mostly gin, I need to get creative with some cocktails to thin the herd.

If anyone has Opihr gin (quite a spiced gin) it works incredibly well mixed with apple juice and slices of Clementine.
    A wintery delight.

  • I have a couple of gins from Poland, one of which is lime flavoured. Just enough shit in it to take the taste of the gin away :)

Brockmans my mate had was quite nice but I have no idea what he mixed with it, if anything.

  • Got another couple of bottles of vodka to play with too. An espresso one and a mint one. Need a lemon one.

  • Bought all the makings of Bloody Mary and Bullshot (and by extension, Bloodshot), this weekend. I'm going to stay in and have a taste-off.

  • Recipe?

I didn't make anything last night. Early rise for gym is hard enough with a cold let alone a cold + a hangover (I can never stop at one). Might 'aid my recovery' tonight with something though. Need to find a recipe that calls for mint vodka. googles Grasshopper

  • For super lazy bloody Mary's, Big Tom tomato juice is already spiced, I tend to whack in a couple of drops of Cox's Bloody Spicer to jazz it up a little more.

When I get more space I intend to do a horseradish infused vodka (or perhaps gin) and make proper ones (or Red Snappers)

  • Bullshot

    2 oz. vodka
    1/2 cup beef bouillon
    1/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
    1 tsp. Worchestershire
    1 dash Tobasco
    1 pinch cayenne pepper
    1 pinch salt
Tools: small saucepan, wooden spoon, spoon
    Glass: mug
    Garnish: lemon wheel

Combine all ingredients, except vodka, in a saucepan and warm over medium heat, stirring constantly. Pour over vodka in mug, stir to combine and garnish.

    I'm no vegan but... dafuq?

  • I'm not entirely sure what beef bouillon is.
Would Bovril work as a substitute?

  • Spread Bovril on toast, down vodka shot?
    #closeenough

  • Eat steak, drink vodka?

  • This was my thought process. Eat meat, drink booze.

  • I'm actually using Baxter's Beef Consomme. Apparently this drink can be consumed hot or over ice...

  • Hot Toddy last night after some mint vodka and quince vodka.

Maybe I should reconsider this warm, meaty thing going down my throat... hmm nope...
