I'm looking to put some Schwalbe G-One 35s on my FBNPNA, I wondered if anyone had tried to fit them under mudguards, eg Bluemels? I've got quite a lot of clearance around the front fork but the rear might be a bit tight.

Surely completely depends on the frameset? In my cross-check 35c tyres have been fine under 3 different 45mm mudguards, front and back. 10mm should be enough difference size between mudguard and tyre

This seems silly, they are fantastic value. Was intending on picking up a pair of 37mm.

Potential silly question, but, rear dropout with only one eyelet. If I want to run a pannier rack and mudguard, is it a matter of putting a longer bolt through both, in the order Frame-Rack-Mudguard?

I know! wonder what is going on there. I wouldn't even mind paying more for them.

Yeah!

Yes, worked for me on my old ribble audax. 3 weeks of fully loaded touring was fine.

Should be fine, put rack on first, then mudguard, use locktite.
Some racks have eyelets to mount guards to the rack - which is better than relying on one eye imo.

Kinesis mudguards out yet?
Edit: yes

they look nice but i'm running 32mm tires so they won't fit :(

Swarf mudguards need drilling for the brake mount fittings, so the answer is yes. The instructions are to drill a hole using 'a sharp 6mm drill bit' - drilling a pilot hole with a 2mm bit is recommended but not essential. I have pair that I've never used because the guard is too wide to fit between the fork legs under crown and I didn't fancy hacking at them to get them to fit.

you have PM :)

I have SKS raceblades on my road bike, and really like the fact that they attach with the rubber straps as opposed to screws into braze-ons.
Are there similar systems for (much) wider mudguards - i.e. for a 29er running 2.35" supermotos?
For whatever reason, my frame/forks have no braze-ons (it's a second-hand robin mather, so i imagine it was spec'd by the original owner). -

talk to me about clearance. Specifically - is there an ideal distance that the guard should be away from the tire? Too close and you risk stones causing issues/rubbing. Too far away and you get excess splatter.

Rubbing is far more annoying than excess splatter. In my experience theres always a bit of splatter.
This year I've gone for Raceguard XL and then added flaps onto the ends. Pretty happy with them so far and you can easily adjust how close or far away they are.

10-12mm size difference between tire and fender is a good rule.

Popped that Royal Mail box on today. Makes a load of racket and a Postie gave me a FILTHY look. Needs tying down properly as every cable tie snapped. Had to put straight risers on to clear the box, as well as a higher stem, which I’m not a fan of.

Get a sheet of heavy duty compound rubber matting. Cut out bits to use as padding between the contact points of the box and rack. Works a treat but does not deflect posties with beefs.

Bit hungover today and it was snowing, so didn’t want to go out and buy matting. So I made do with an old MTB inner tube from the days when MTBs had inner tubes.

Then I drilled pairs of holes in the box near where rack tubes passed and attached it with cable ties. Feels secure enough.

Strong work. Should be less rattle-y which means the zip ties should hold up longer too.

What's the go-to mudguards for very tight steel skidder frames?
Maximum protection, don't care how they look.

Nice. I got a similar crate from Tesco, the ones they use for fruit'n'veg. Bonus points is that I can stack another on top if I really want and it has holes in it so drains the water. Will grab a photo later.
does anyone know if Swarf guards can be drilled for flaps? No experience drilling carbon...
