  • Of course. The guys a master, using Barry meant I saved most of the original metal.

  • 1976 Reg? Imported then? But it’s RHD...

    What’s the story?

I assume you’ll refit the whale tail. That’d set it off a treat.

  • 1970 car, 2.2 911E supplied to Porsche GB but spent some time on the isle of man and came back to the mainland in 76.
The car has a lot going for it in that its super original and this is the first Restoration so hasn't been subject to any major DIY. All the interior, wiring, engine etc etc is unmolested. Its had some kidney bowl work but that must have been back in the late 70's which goes to show these things didn't last long before the rust kicked in. I guess living on a small island didn't help.
Its matching numbers and the Fuchs appear to be the same ones that came with the car from new, the only down side is......Its a Sporto. OK not ideal but i'm hoping when its finished it will be one of the best Sportos in the country and as there aren't many left its a shame to convert it to a manual. Plus from what i've read they're pretty interesting to drive when they're sorted.
The last owner was disabled so he had the accelerator switched to the left of the brake.
The Whale tale has long gone i'm afraid, as has the fibreglass S bumper. Its going pretty much as per the factory except for a little lows.
I'm trying to copy the factory paint imperfections as best as possible too.

  • Now that's a conundrum- keep as is or convert to manual? Originality is all, in terms of value of course.

  • Give or take 2 WRC drivers titles, one WRC constructors title, and WRC rally wins every year of its production, yes.

There's a reason Mk2 Escorts are revered and the Volvo 760 is reviled.

  • Auto with paddle shift.

  • Don't make me dig out all the Rally and Touring car wins that the 240 has chalked up.

  • Is what I'll have in the BMW- is fine for a big estate.

  • Sportos are perfectly fine when set up well, but they do stop it being a sports car and make it into a cruiser.

I used to smoke a 188 SC sporto as a daily driver and it was great for regular use. You could drive it through the gears or just leave it in one gear and use it like an auto. The torque of the 3.0 helped, but the power is about the same as your E will be.

    Is the colour OG?

  • Yeah Tangerine. TBH i'm not going to be ragging this about the track, or lanes. I'll see how I get on with it, I can always switch it out without too much pain and keep everything safe.

  • Very pleasant chap just came to view the Volvo, offered me £8,900 for it as his opening offer.

He's considering both my car and a T-5R in "that yellow", I suggested that he have a think about which car he wants and we'll discuss the price then.

I do feel that I've priced mine fairly, but I can understand that he wants me to give him some discount as it's kind of a given in these situations.

    Hmm.

  • Omg i want that so badly. Ok a ferrari suppose to be red but those dark blue almost black colors are gorgeus!

  • Is head bolt of death motor?

  • ...or Verde Abetone? (British Racing Green) 😎

  • If you believe the internet every used car will explode and cost you £5k the day after you pick it up.

  • I wonder what a third part warranty would cost/would cover

  • would cost

    A bit

    would cover

    Not a lot

  • Says the guy who just forked out for a new clutch. Which was supposed to be covered. But wasn't. Due to fine print.

  • I like the E63, but- head bolt breaks, engine hydro locks, is fucked.

Mercedes change the whole engine when that happens- for circa £35,000.

If you could swap the bolts for the later ones (which don’t snap) then thatd’d be cracking.

  • Anyway- E61's, what to look for, in the opinion of those who have/know them on this thread?

  • https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1076816 Seems pretty comprehensive. I’m not sure if the M5 has air springs at the back (like non-M) but if it does, test the car with someone or something in the back. A noisey compressor from the rear DS (or on-screen error) means it or the bags or both are on the way out. None of the niggly electrical things listed affected mine but brake wobble (dodgy discs) manifested after a long motorway run. If it has adaptive/Xeon headlights check they work properly (little dance when you turn them on and look round corners as you steer - really obvious at parking speeds) as appaz they’re a bag of sand each to replace.

  • Porsche battery flat, trying to jump it from the Volvo but the engine won't turn over- why this? Volvo battery not got enough power for the Porsche starter?
