Riding back from Richmond Park yesterday, just past Putney Bridge Station, near the Hurlingham Club when a rider going in the opposite direction shouts hello. I look round and as I did he stopped and turned. I stopped. He said hello. Hadn't seen me for ages. How was I doing. He had had a bad accident in August in Epsom. Hit a curb. Just back on the bike now after injuring his shoulder. We chatted for a while. My mind was working overtime to recall who it was, not wishing to display my ignorance; always looking for clues, forcing the conversation towards them. Becoming concerned that my age addled brain had obliterated a memory. And then he said, "You are Jason aren't you?" I conceded that I wasn't. It turned out that he had mistaken me for someone else. I wished him well with his recovery and we rode on in opposite directions.

Ha! That truly is the stuff of nightmares..
