So this evening in Kings Cross/ Russell Sq there appeared to be significant police motorbike presence.
Some had pulled up and were advising people to keep phones in their pockets. The area has suffered many moped phone grabs.
Significant or coincidence I'm unsure but a more visible presence in a more appropriately equipped manner can't be bad. -

Just fence off West Drayton to Yeisley leave it like Escape from New York surely? That should cut crime in the borough massively...

It's tempting.
This de-resourcing of the north of the LBHillingdon really begins to undermine the merger of Ruislip-Northwood UDC with Uxbridge DC to form the borough in the first place.
With police having to sign on in Hayes, (the pepper spray issued to the Met is classified as a fire arm, so cannot be taken home), the closest officers for Ruislip will be just over the borough boundary in Harrow! It will be like Dukes Of Hazard with criminals making a run to get over the 'border'.
Still the aged brexitty house owners of Ruislip are rich enough to employ private zigooriddy. -

Saw those fancy new police bikes pelting down camden road yesterday, I guessed they we're going after some.

Saw 3 peds, 6 riders tearing up Borough High St earlier.
None had a number plate on. What's their thinking on this?

I blame the Daily Mail, & Paul Dacre,
and not just because you seldom go wrong by blaming the DM & Dacre.Gordon Brown copped a lot of stick for various aspects of life leading upto the 2010 general election,
one of which was the DM's 'the War on Motorists'.
The M4 Bus Lane, speed cameras, the price of fuel, forcing people to use low sulphur diesel,
the 'road tax' changing to an emissions-based system, all these sensible decisions were dismissed as part of the Nanny State, despite being incremental improvements following from the compulsory use of seat belts, and the welcome social ostracism of drink driving.Osborne's unnecessary Austerity gave Chief Constables the opportunity to avoid doing the active policing that kept motorists on their toes.
[When I commuted in on the A40 in the early '90s there was routinely a policeman standing on the divider at the lead out lane for the Hangar Lane junction. Inconsiderate drivers trying to cut in late to leave the A40 were sent down to North Acton,
and,
any drivers with any messed about number plates, faulty lights or non-visible tax discs, had their number plates radioed up to colleagues waiting on the slip road].Nowadays you can seemingly have any re-arrangement of your number plate you like.
You can drive around from October till the lamps burn out, with your fog lights 'on'.
You can drive around with headlights faulty, and unless you understand the oncoming traffic is warning you, rather than just flashing their headlamps for the hell-of-it, it should get picked up at the MOT, if you bother. The switch to no physical 'tax disc' has resulted in some 10-fold reduction in income for DVLA compared to the projected savings. As the income stream from speed cameras was pirated by the Treasury, (rather than going to the local Police for more traffic calming actions/infrastructure), 2/3rds of speed cameras are currently inoperative/unused.
Yesterday, cycling home, approaching West Ruislip tube station, along the only bit of (inadequately) marked bike lane in the north of LB Hillingdon, there was parked, outside a Tesco Metro, on a double yellow line and the bike lane ....... a police patrol vehicle doing the afternoon run up to Ruislip, so the Borough Commander can claim Ruislip is 'adequately policed'.
So, it was Tory/libDem policy to cede the streets to motorists, as long as the death toll did not rise too much. The Police were redeployed into the concurrent 'war on drugs', & 'war on knife crime', and presumably some cybercrime.
Add in the 'we can't risk killing them in pursuit', and self-obsessed pedestrians walking around waving £500 devices in the air, and you have the perfect conditions for a moped-based crime wave. -

You're reaching.
What's interesting about your post is the hypocrisy of slating the DM on the one hand, whilst simultaneously taking on their judgemental narrative.
Would also be curious to see a source about the increased focus (or redeployment of spend) of the police on tackling drug crime?

New clothing shop next to Spiritland got done over last night, 11pm
2 scooters, 2 riders with pillions. Smashed the windows and straight in and out within 58 secs nicking 1,000's of £££ worth of gear. Security guard came to see what was happening and one of the fuckers pulled out a kitchen knife...
The landlords won't allow retailers to put shutters up so it's fair game especially with the Bemerton Estate is only 200yrds away.

Chucked one mobile away and it gave the cops all the evidence they needed.

Hopefully more start to get it now after that but the justice system is too soft on them.

Brother-in-law works with the father of the boy who got chased and stabbed in Northolt. He was just walking with friends and a gang on mopeds approached them - they ran in different directions and he was the one they followed, caught and killed. Totally shocking.

Some little scrotes on a moped/bicycles outside my flat just. Massive revs, driving up and down the road/pavement nearly hitting cars, pedestrians, etc. Looked like one of them had nicked a seatpost/saddle off a bike. They scarpered when I poked my head out of the window (wondering what the noise was about) and watched them for a couple of minutes. Suspect they're off to get into trouble.
Wish I'd got a photo or written down the numberplate.
Fortunately they were pretty young (<18) and I suspect they're the "steal your unlocked QR front wheel" rather than "acid attack someone" type.

Sorry, forgot to mention, this is in Edinburgh and we don't really have a problem with acid attacks (so far anyway). There's a bunch of these little dicks on mopeds but they pretty much just steal parked bikes, scooters and motorbikes if they can get their hands on them.

Its sometimes hard to believe has such bad motorbike crime considering there is some real money in it but there is also some really rough bits too so that makes it not hard to believe.

I came here and all of a sudden was on Mail Online. That is so wrong.
That was sort of my point, canal paths to me look as appealing as a dark alley just with a river along it. A few times I've worked out Brent way my route went along the canal for miles till I got to car giant and turned off to go past the ace cafe, would often see burned out mopeds and other signs of crime, similar when working in Barking going up the limehouse cut.
