If it's help, I used to have the Nitto, and they were brilliant, really stiff, but not uncomfortably so, long flat for more hand position, and the curve is great for riding on.
It is pretty expensive.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I want to fit some porteur-style bars on my friend's bike so she doesn't have to do this horrible hippie-village- eccentric thing to her drop bars and fit them upside down to get a more relaxed sit up and beg posture. It looks so wrong!!.. Anyway my question is whether I can use the hooded brake levers she has at the moment with some standard north road bars? Have seen people using them with Cinelli Priest etc, so if would save her the money for new levers. Thanks
-
• #131
Go to a jumble and find some proper levers for a few pence.
Even new, this style is cheap. -
• #132
ok, using the same levers would have saved me the work of re-cabling hehe, but thanks for the pointer,I am sure it's time for new cables anyway

The standard Raleigh North roads are a narrower diameter like standard MTB bars iirc.
But you can get others that are built for road levers although they tend to cost more.

Anyone know of any Soma Oxford on sale? Google shopping and ebay said no, unless my search-fu is particularly weak.
-
• #135
KP have got Soma stuff in for me before, you checked there?
-
• #136
They're away at the mo but will check when back. In a quandary really as want more swept back upright but don't want to lose STI's (or rather absorb cost of new flat bar shifters and levers).
Reason for change is to raise my position for when baby seat in place.
Have been thinking about simply flipping the woodchippers, but that'd be daft no?
-
• #137
Ah yeah. Forgot they were still off.
No idea about flipping the woodchippers, I'd probably give it a shot, what's the worst that can happen!

I bought a pair of these and thought I should share, I got the SS version, for no other reason than they were the dimensions I wanted, but I'll have to admit, the fact they're made of stainless does please me a little. Some of the Ali ones are really cheap. And my bar end shifter fits in the end which is a bonus (they're 22.2 so a little unusual in this regard) edit: not sure if that just applies to the SS version as it has thinner walls maybe?
Will add a photo when I have them fitted.

The oxford still has a 22.2 OD, despite being able to fit bar end shifters, so your STIs wouldn't fit anyway unless I don't think. I've had some luck buying straight from the importer http://www.fine-adc.com/, bought my frame from them, but actually couldn't get a reply on the Oxfords when I asked about them. The bar I posted above is a cheaper alternative (still 22.2 though). Alternatively I might have some VO Montmartres for sale in the road size once I get those fitted. Narrower though (42cm)

^^ I think most chromoly and stainless north road type bars will fit bar end shifters - they're strong enough to make thinner than alu, so the OD will be the same with the ID bigger on the steel bars.

This thread seems pretty old school, but in terms of new(er) bullhorns, any opinions on Cobra wings (now called Viper wings) from Profile?
They seem like a nice alternative to the Cinelli Mash bulls for folks looking for a nice flat section. Anyone ridden/owned both for comparison?

Just bought these, they might break but 7 bucks isn't bad.

I have this pair of moustache bars for sale 15£ new only fitted but never used if anyone fancy...I'm after a VO Porteur one if anyone has anything cheaper than 20quid! http://www.lfgss.com/thread126307.html

Dredging this thread as can't find a better one to post this in.
I'm building up a SSCX and looking for a swept back handlebar with a bit of rise in it. Nothing too extreme - not looking for full porteur.
Does anyone know what the bar in this pic might be? Or could advise on a similar one? Needs to be black and 31.8 clamp diameter.

On one mary https://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/HBOOMA/on-one-mary-handlebar or fleegle? I think I have a black set of the fleegle going spare but would have to check diameter
-
• #148
Hmm I don't think it's a Mary as doesn't seem to have such an extreme forward sweep first before the backsweep like the Mary does, and looks more swept than the Fleegle. Ideally looking for something that does bring the grips back a bit as fancy quite an upright position on this bike.

Surly Open Bar? This sort of thing is quite on trend so there are probably a few options around. Here's a good picture of it being compared to the nitto albatross.

@sidewinder
I'd be interested to try out your fleegles pending clamp diameter.
cheers for the pointer...
but no. Unfortunately not. You either have 22.2mm or internal space for bar ends...
... I guess it's something to do with having to have thicker walls because of the narrow diameter for strength. Which might explain why the Nitto's are so expensive (and the only ones).
I'm sure that I saw some soma's somewhere which had just the very end bored out to take bar ends.
I wonder if it's one of those things a machinist could do(?)... and where on earth do you find one?
