P2 and P3 have always been exactly the same geometry as one another (in fact, the current P2 and P3 are the same frame with different forks), the change is between first generation frames and the 2013+ versions.

I don't think that this is true.
I'm pretty sure the classic P3 is longer and lower than the skinny's classic p2. The new P2 and P3 are both the same geometry and I believe that they are taller and shorter than either of their "classic" variants.

Bang for buck I don't think frame swaps are a great idea. Happy to be proven wrong though.
