  • Contrary to Scrabble's example above, the Co-op Truly Irresistible (allegedly deep-filled) all butter mincers suffer greatly from 'the gap'.

The upper crust (dashed with powdered sugar rather than granulated, but that's a different story) breaks through to a chasm of dead air before reaching the admittedly tasty boozy filling. The lid can be removed entirely to remedy this, but that feels unnecessarily involved for what should be a perfect handheld snack.

Of course, this matters less when heated, submerged in custard, and bludgeoned into a delicious mess.

Will move on to Sainsbury's deep filled with our next 'big shop' and report back.

  • When warmed up in a microwave,
inverting such frugal mince pies, ensures the crust gets a dousing of any liquid,
    and
when pierced provides a caldera to hold the topping of choice, (plain natural yoghurt goes well).
