  • Fuck, you're irritating!

  • idiot with poor understanding of physics or responsibility wants people to approve of their piss poor lifestyle choices

  • I just wanted a bit of clarity on what the consequences and cost would be, To be honest from the comments that did refer to the original subject, I'd be looking at either a talking to or a £30 fine. And in all seriousness if that's actually the extent of the risk that other cyclists in their experience have faced then I do feel I received the needed clarity on it.

  • You might also have your bicycle confiscated for being unroadworthy.

  • It will then be sold at Bobbies Local Bike Shop or BLB as the forum knows it.

  • Happened to one rider on the forum and he had to buy his OWN bike back. I'm not sure how he knows but he said it had tynan poo on the saddle.

  • like having a puncture kit... It's the in case scenario and I get that.

If you don't want to ride with a brake. Just pop it in a bag with your puncture repair kit. So, you have it for that "in case scenario"

  • I just wanted a bit of clarity on what the consequences and cost would be

Consequence #1 - people think yer a pranny

  • If you read my earlier post, that is about the sum of it. You will most likely be told off and sent on your way, assuming that our "clever" coppers notice that you are riding brakeless in the first place.

IMO our laws are a bit "simple". Making people ride fixed bikes with brakes is for "worst possible case" scenarios, ie where the rider's skills are innadequate to handle the bike safely. I've just spent some time in Barcelona, and rented a brakeless fixed bike and it was nice to know that I was conforming to the law of the land whilst having fun on the seafront.

  • I just wanted a bit of clarity on what the consequences and cost would be,

Consequence - That you kill someone and go to jail for it.
Cost - I dunno what a good lawyer costs these days, CharliefuckingA probably does.

If you are examining potential the cost of riding brakeless, there is no point in assuming anything other than the worst possible outcome of doing so.

You might get noticed by a rare, on-the-ball copper, they might decide to pull you over for it, they might decide to fine you or prosecute you for it. If you kill someone you WILL have to deal with it.

  • Thats me, walk into a room and let people know. Thats why stereotypes exist right?!

  • I feel like that's a dangerous thing to presume.

It seems like the only reasonable circumstance in which you can end up in gaol as a result of brakelessness.

In case you're new here, I'm on record many times as recommending 2 brakes on fixie bikes wherever possible. The OP is a bell end for riding brakeless, and everything he has posted in here confirms it, from self delusion about his mad skillz to a fundamental failure to understand physics as it applies to bicycles.

  • What next, you don't use facebook?

  • The OP is a bell end

    Wasn't expecting that, nearly choked

  • A Constable can stop you to inspect the bike, if you fail to stop that's obstruction and an offence in its own right as is if you refuse to cooperate. If you do not have the required working brakes you can be fined up to £1000, (scale level three fine) you can't be given a fixed penalty notice for the offence and have to be prosecuted and fined by the judiciary. IANAL and you are a bell end.

  • you're adding the word directly to make it so

Only as shorthand for what the law actually says, which is "without the interposition of any gearing or chain"

  • I only assume that because I don't know anyone that's ever had to deal with facing the legal ramifications of this issue

Never mind the legal ramifications, the more serious issue is that you'll be associated with Brooklyn Beckham, and nobody wants that

  • I miss the merge function...

  • No bar ends?!

  • Saddle!

  • I bet he (BB) is on here.

  • I bet he (BB) is on here

And you'd get charged £15 to have him removed

  • Given the disproportionately low number of people stupid enough to ride around brklz, I'd take any study with a pinch of salt. If more people thought it was cool that would change.

edit: fnarrrk missed the new page

  • Rideing brakeless is illegal in Barcelona. i had people stopped by the police for it and i had been stoped by a policeman even if i had a front brake and he said that i needed 2 brake.....
