  • Me too, that's why I had a chat with em, was just hoping the lack of stock was a colourway change or hold up in production, but alas not.

  • Bloody hope not!

  • Soooooo what's the news?

  • Don't have that kind of relationship with Surly HQ, no idle pillow talk or owt. Just asked what was occurring, got told to wait and see.

  • I do hope it's not a disc braked, chunkyish tyre all roader. Most disapointing, as the straggler already has that base covered.

  • Something like a elephant nfe or crust evasión Will be nice. Disc brakes are the present and future, ask amey about.

  • Yeah they are nice bikes, but not really where the Pacer sat in the market, it's more of a 32mm tyre, caliper brake, throw a tool roll on and ride all fookin day kinda bike, I have a cross check with knobbly tyres if I wanna go everywhere.

  • True speak. If I wanted one more surly it’d have to be a proper road bike with calipers. Have seen some pacers out in the wild and always coveted one.

  • Crosscheck all loaded up for a nights camping.

  • Thanks for all of the info, I was asking mainly for scale as I have a pair of those panniers. The more I read and talk to people about their Surly bikes the more I feel I want one haha!

  • Bear in mind that Liz’s Troll is absolutely minuscule so everything looks giant on it. Despite this it runs full ‘guards, racks and associated touring bullshit without anything interfering with anything else, I don’t even think there’s toe overlap with her wee feet.
I think the newer models are even more practical. The older ones like hers can also run a 100mm sus fork.

  • Hey guys,

Does anyone know what size seat clamp is required for a Straggler?

  • 30mm I think. Seatpost size is 27.2mm

  • Absolutely loving this tank. Just need a dynamo set up to sail through winter

  • @B0N0R lovely ride. How are those tyres working out for you? What they like for punctures?

  • Is this a size 46? i m thinking about buying one, and i d like to know how does it ride on the road where i ll use it for the majority of the time.
    Thanks

  • yeah it is.... Just swapped tyres for some compass loup loup pass and did some road/gravel riding this weekend and it's awesome.

Surly sizing is weird so feels a bit disproportionate. Tho I'm still trying to work out fit. Oddly enough I think I need a longer stem...

Here it is from a weekend ride...

  • Would anybody have a 58/60cm Straggler they'd be willing to let me try for sizing? Looking to buy a sparkly new blue frame before Christmas. Previously ridden a 56 cross-check, but just had too much seat post showing to be optimally comfortable. Any advice from riders around the 6ft1 mark would also be appreciated.

  • I'm 6'1" and ride a 60cm cross check and had multiple bike fits. A 56cm would feel like a clown bike to me.

  • Haha yeah that description isn't too far off my experience. One day my spine will recover. What length/angle stem you got?

  • 7 degrees maybe? Not sure off the top of my head.

  • Decided to go all in on Surly stable.
Currently have a steamroller fixed winter trainer. I’m about to start a Pacer DA 9000 build as my only road bike. Some might say idiosyncratic, but my goal is a steel bike that’s comfortable for long miles, modern, able to keep up on a quick club run, something I’m not at all precious about, bombproof and a bike for life. Current plan is some wide handbuilt wheels Paselas, trad drop bars and to match my roller.
