Anyone know max tyre clearance on a Colnago Crystal ? Running 25mm Veloflex Master on Mavic CXP30 at the moment and looks as though there's room to go up to 28mm ?

Very nice indeed 👍
Just built one up myself ready for the summer. Not a Mapei though sadly

Show some proof. ;)
Been rebuilding my Master Extra Lite: moved the Sram Force (10 speed) to my Serotta and putted an 11 speed Ultegra on it. Will post pics when finished.

I love that Master of yours. The green paint scheme I’ve never seen anywhere before. It looks (looked) so right. Are you keeping those carbon wheels on it? They looked nice.

Here it is a couple of days ago ‘nearly’ finished.

Looks fantastic too. Well done.
I ruined the wheels. Theu suddenly started screaming like hell when braking and than the rear rim broke. I ride RS81 now.
There's one like mine for sale here in Belgium. Size 55.

Crikey I bet that was scary
They’re well revered wheels those so you’ll have to go some to break them.
That’s the colour. I love it but honestly I think it worked so much better with the modern groupset.
Cheers mate................it’s been a while :-)

Very nice !
Group set really suits this -

I have reasons to believe the wheelset was produced on a Monday morning. My brother (who distributed Gigantex-made wheels when he lived in Québec) got them for free as try-outs. Happy I didn't crash when going down a mountain at 90 km/hr...
Yeah, I shifted my focus a bit away from building bikes. Still active but not as fanatically as a couple of years ago. I'm getting old, I guess. ;-)

Thank you.

This is how it looks now. Changed sram to shimano, replaced the -10 degree (25 mm) stem by a Thomson-17 (OS ) so I could use the Easton EC70 bars I had in the spares box.

That sure looks good. Gumwalls are a nice look on it too. Masters with a modern group are just a dream to ride. I suppose that’s why people are still buying new ones.

I still ride mine a lot. My only criticism which of course doesn’t apply to yours is the quill stem has a fair bit of flex to it. The C40 has a quill adapter which although adds a bit of weight really stiffens up the front which I hope will really make a difference when pulling heavily on the hoods cranking up hills (my favourite pastime).
I considered swapping out the precise fork for a star with an aheadset but think it’s going to be OK as it is.

ooooh pantograph envy... fab colour!

So happy with this. Some damage to the top tube paint but managed to marker pen it in pretty convincingly. Wheels are Zipp 101's and a lot of the group is Campag Daytona. Think the seatposts Chorus. Mental length stem needs to change!

Those quill stems give some flex, true. Most of my rides are on hilly terrain too (the typical short but steep bumps here in Flanders) and an oversized stem feels more secure. ;) I had the Precisa fork of mine lengthened (new steerer tube) for this reason but I like the looks of the carbon forks more, tbh.
You could solve the problem by changing the stem for a steel ITM Eclypse. I have on of those on my Carrera and it's lot less flexy.

not seen a green one before, is that a rare finish?

There's at least 2 of this colour here in Flanders. ;)
I don't know how rare it is or was. It was from the same period everybody wanted the yellow/white one so could be rare, yes.
Hooray!
