I have a spot of toe overlap on my Talbot. It's kinda bothersome, but then I don't spend a lot of time riding it so I guess it's something you can get used to.
The short wheelbase - 1000mm or so - makes it lively but it's kinda terrifying at medium / slow speeds in tight turns - it's just a bit too keen to duck under you. Wheelbase is 1005mm but I've got more clearance than you'll probably have so maybe the longer front centre will sort that out a bit.
I reckon a 71/70 deg head angle with a spot more offset would be an improvement, on my frame, but then you've got to build a whole new frame and find a new fork. 74deg boggles my mind, but then I spend a lot of time on modern MTBs where 69.5 is on the steep side.
The 550s are not madness really. 74 degree headtube is the only thing really mad, but Joe Peake has been testing it so far this season and has had no issues despite mega toe overlap on his 510 frame.
