Yeah, I found both standard gears a little spinny for the commute. I think 58t gives 60" and 80" gears.
I commute over Finsbury park/seven sisters, so mildly hilly but nothing too steep and get up both in the 58/12.
I think I averaged 23.something* mph for the bwc and 58t was still too spinny for that. Think some of the more serious guys were running 60t chainrings... 58t 130bcd narrow wide is about £20 from AliExpress.
Edit: just checked, 22.4mph for bwc.

Yeah my Nocturne average was about 32kph or something and my heart rate peak/average was highest it’s ever been - wild cadence. Will check out those Chainrings. Also with the 2spd I can singlespeed it very easily if I so wish.

Yes! My avg hr was 179bpm, peaking at 189.
On a standard hard ride I'd maybe see 155/160 avg with 179 peak. No idea how I didn't explode.
I'll see if I can dig out a link to the chainring.

That's the chainring I've got: http://s.aliexpress.com/ieUBryAN
I should note that I've got them fitted to Ultegra 130bcd cranks, not standard Brompton ones, but can't see why it wouldn't work?

I'm not exactly central (N16) but can usually turn them around within a day if that's any use to you?
-
• #3457
That could work... what's your setup?
-
• #3458
Non at all, I have seen Brompton that had massive play and still managed to bring it back, worse case scenario is a new rear triangle.
-
• #3461
And you're still riding it!?
-
• #3462
No choice.
Still goes in a straight line ;0)

@tenderloin - just found these:
Can’t testify they work but will likely get some eventually

Back on a brompton.
Why oh why did I ever sell my other one. These machines are marvellous.
Stock S2L at the moment - with Kojaks on - really like the new gear shifter, but the bell is a little annoying being integrated into the brake lever.
Might actually keep mudguards on it, likely get some black ones, although there’s some annoying rattling which whatever is causing it will be exorcised.

Sound like it gonna be a lots of work!
This is what happen when all the part is seized, have to cut off plastic washer first then hacksaw through the spindle. fortunately managed to bring it back into how it should be;

I've been riding my very old (95ish) Brompton again, in Amsterdam and it remains so much fun. I'm wondering about keeping it and using it for here. I'll need the brake upgrade though, and I think maybe my handlebars had a recall..
Hatches plan to sell old/buy new

It’s still cheaper to service/upgrade your Brompton than to buy new, even if the servicing cost £400 (in. Wheelbuild, hinge, brakes).
-
• #3469
Thanks dude, did you order one?
-
• #3470
I really like the new easy wheels and aftermarket clamps I ordered for mine.
-
• #3471
Yeah I miss my Ti clamps and big easy wheels.
Not ordered any upgrades yet - need to replenish the bike fund once I’ve finished building this outrageous Open.
Then you can expect upgradingz.
-
• #3472
Which easy wheels did you go for, was thinking of swapping out the stock ones for skateboard wheels, but have been told the easy wheels are better...
-
• #3473
These are what I had on my previous Brompton, and what I will be ordering again:
Nice and compact to avoid any heel strike, and real good looking too.
-
• #3474
How much is that?
-
• #3475
Last time it was £120 I think, including the hinge (special ordered from Brompton).
TBH 2spd sounds sensible, as does 58T as 54x12 was was too spinny when I did nocturne
