Is there a specific bigger problem with a leashold house
nobody wants one *
* OK there are some exceptions like ex-local houses on estates but as a general rule you buy a house to be your own landlord **
** or at least the last sucker in the chain before paying money to the local landed gentry

cheers boss. tonight's no good, but will be stopping simon and digger's tomoz to watch them burn policemen etc. if anyones about.

I've only heard of it with new builds. Bit scammy. Generally ends up with massive ground rents.
-
• #20856
Ah man that is so bullshit. Have you spoken to the EA about it? Wtf were they thinking, hoping you might not notice!?

Wtf were they thinking, hoping you might not notice!?
that's the conclusion we've reached. it just doesn't make any sense. also, why on earth would the current owner buy a leasehold as an investment property, surely he must have known it would be near impossible to shift as a leasehold? on further inspection, it looks like they have form for not including any info regarding lease status on any of their listings.
who knows, maybe there's a misunderstanding about the whole situation and the deal is salvageable. hope springs eternal etc.
wondering now if it's related to the fact that it's on the Corbett estate that it's leasebound - @6pt, you're our man on the ground, any ideas?

Is it possible the vendor didn't tell the EA either?
-
• #20860
Ours is freehold. I didn’t view any other Corbett houses when I bought it so don’t know if that’s standard - I would have assumed so tbh. Sorry to hear about yours.

possibly... seems unlikely tho, i mean, sure EA's are incompetent, but not asking would be some weapons grade lack of due diligence.
i wish jeez was here to explain things.

Sounds to me like the EA is legally bound to reveal this shit so I'd say you have a case for some moolah coming back. Then I'd smash in their windows randomly for the next 20 years, because.

ah m8 it's no biggy. just gonna have to get back out there. we're in a pretty solid position considering our gaff is sold, might go and lowball a few places on the weekend for shitz+giggz.

This and extortionate charges for Landlord's Approval for alterations.
-
• #20867
Shit news @greenhell. I feel yr feels. Took me months to get over the one that got away from us.
-
• #20868
this is blowing my mind. i'm glad we plumped for the expensive solicitors tbh. they've already told us there's no charge if we pull out now. still gonna push a dog poo thru the EA's letterbox this evening.
-
• #20869
ah fuckit - we'll get something else, probably cheaper too.
-
• #20870
turns out the freehold is owned by the seller, which makes sense - however he wants to hang on to it because groundrent charges.
OK buddy, good luck finding someone dumb enough to play that game with you, you greedy little cunt.
-
• #20871
Did the EA know this? What about your costs?
-
• #20872
I look forward to hearing what kind of bullshit the EA comes out with to cover this one.
Whats the situation with your property for sale, is the chain going to have to wait for you to find a new place now?
-
• #20873
yeah we're gonna lump it. it's all gotten a bit toxic now and frankly, we can get a place for less in the area with none of this grief. not being out of pocket makes it easier as well. thanks for all your advice tho folks, internet's friendliest forum etc.

• #20874
Who the fuck is stupid enough to pay 570k for a fucking leasehold house.
What a shower of cunts, particularly the EA just hoping some mug pops along.
