By 'convicted of charges', I was referring to the process in the Senate after an impeachment vote and the subsequent vote to issue changes. If found guilty, there would be a subsequent vote to remove from office. The whole process would take years.
Anyway, I was only mentioning it because I saw the impeachment magic wand being waved again further up the thread.
I don't think he can face charges in office. I think indictment is issued (openly or secretly - which is itself nice leverage) then charges are faced once out of office.
