Allegedly, he resigned over the Julia Hartley-Brewer story, but that seems unlikely. The darker stories - hinted at in the spreadsheet that has been circulating - are doubtless the real reason.

I wasn't expecting him to fall on his sword, but good riddance, except that there will probably be someone even more incompetent to replace him.
