yeah quite the co-incidence. I thought that too.
Not his first terror attack though, the populace of Las Vegas might have a differing opinion there.
With regards to the Police vans convoy, they rolled passed us by St Katherines dock at about half 4 yesterday afternoon. from 13 floors up it looked like a planned moving through traffic at busy periods exercise. I once tried following a group of bike cops doing similar through south london once and despite being on a similar bike there was no way i was keeping up. those guys shift. /csb
Edit. Motorcycle cops

the vegas thing was a deranged mentally unstable white guy not terrorism, we should all know that narrative by now

oh yes. I totally forgot that. Silly me.

ahh that makes more sense.

Apparently this is his fifth terrorist attack. It is noteworthy that Vegas hasn't been declared a terrorist attack yet.
Of the four before this thing in New York, one was perpetrated by a Muslim, one was a bomb attack against a mosque and the other two were right wing related.

Radio 5 presenter this morning said to a US interviewee that this was the first time a vehicle was used for an attack in the US, got totally schooled on Charlottesville.

It's good that they caught the perpetrator alive this time and that he'll get a trial. That will hopefully knock a few layers of shine off the stupid idea that murderers can be martyrs.
I just had a look at that cycle track on StreetView. The footway seems too narrow to drive along, so it's not surprising he chose the track. It's about the width of a standard traffic lane and while there are no insurmountable barriers on either side, it must be very difficult to react if you're being driven at at speed. Just horrific.

Was there any political or ideological motivation for the Vegas attack? If not then it's mass murder but not terrorism.
(Happy to be corrected, I've not followed the story recently, and also not to say I don't get the white guy = lone wolf, brown guy = terrorist trope. I also suspect I shouldn't stick my nose in when I haven't followed the story much)

yeah some contacts in the colonies were sharing pics of those miserable fucks wafting their vierkleurs about and stinking up the place. seems nowhere is immune to the recent uptick in global far right cuntery.
time to get punchy.

You're spot on. Thats the exact definition of a terrorist attack.
If they work out that Vegas was politically or ideologically motivated it would be designated a terror attack. Mental that they have no idea.
-
• #49691
I think you're probably right. Was really just talking about how the USA categorises terrorism rather than commenting on whether it is right or wrong.

A stormy weekend led to free electricity in Germany as wind generation reached a record, forcing power producers to pay customers the most since Christmas 2012 to use electricity. Power prices turned negative as wind output reached 39,409 megawatts on Saturday, equivalent to the output of about 40 nuclear reactors. To keep the grid supply and demand in balance, negative prices encourage producers to either shut power stations or else pay consumers to take the extra electricity off the network.
bet the end consumer, mr and mrs joe public, still gets charged at exactly the same rate as usual and see no benefit

It is incredible to think that this sort of achievement is happening while Trump's USA desperately clings on to coal.

Clings onto coal and then celebrates upturns in the coal industry with self congratulatory tweets, as a tactic to distract from his campaign team and advisors being traitorous.
Stay classy.

Yes, an interesting development. On your comment I would say that the process from generation > transmission > distribution > supply > consumption > charging is so convoluted that you might not expect to see an immediate impact. But it should of course be factored into the overall costs. That said, I imagine the economics of negative pricing will change in the future as storage becomes more feasible/affordable.

there was a report out recently in the uk that showed big energy weren't passing on recent drops in raw material costs to uk consumers, FACT
https://www.theguardian.com/money/2015/jan/07/bix-six-energy-household-bills
same with big petrol not passing on oil price reductions to customers in petrol prices, quick to rise as raw material prices rise but slow on the downside

ooops
look over there !
just heard an MP ask maybot in parliament why she hadn't acted in the 3 instances said mp brought info about sexual harrasment to her while she was home secretary, queue some stuttering, some blindingly obvious avoiding of the question and a stock strong and stable leadership answer
talk of whips using blackmail over the harrassers to keep them loyal, nothing new there but it's coming out into the open

I think it's probably fair to say that "negative pricing" of electricity is not a good thing. It still costs money to produce electricity, maintain power plants on down time and maintain the electrical systems that transport this power everywhere. The negative pricing is a result of it being cheaper for the transmission companies than having to repair/compensate for a network that has just overheated and caused widespread powercuts.
Still, great that wind power is able to provide so much clean electricity, we just need to ensure that the investment is made in electrical systems to allow this kind of event to be managed better.
trumps first terrorist attack
on the day his colleagues are getting rounded up and arrested
quite the coincidence .... possibly
rip victims
