  • Errr... I stand to be corrected but:
    Its an equivalent gradient of 0.42%:
    50,000 metres= 50km (rise)
    12,000 km= 12,000km (run)
    Gradient = rise/run x 100

    For reference-
    Regents Park (outer circle) has 30m (though some sources claim 50!) of vertical rise. It is roughly 4.4km long.
    So an average gradient of 0.68%

  • This is fine till you realise what goes up must come down. So probably best to double the average gradient, unless it was actually a 12,000km climb.
