And you can have a Panamera, which will not be boring.
I'm making an assumption here, but my assumption is that a 26k Panamera has the potential to go more wrong than a 10k BMW, in terms of £.

Dunno. Maybe not. I bet the BMW was similar money new and will have all the same fancy bits to fall off.
-
• #37904
That's a lot of car for little outlay. Might need a few bits of work but as a thing to cruise around in and leave at the airport it seems to be ideal.

BMW is a handy 16k cheaper to buy, which is a significant factor.
Panamera would, I grant you, be more fun I suspect.
But which model to go for? The one I posted was the only V8 I could find for that sort of money, which makes me rather suspicious of it.

I was thinking the same, but wonder whether they just didn’t sell many.
It’s amazing looking at Autotrader just how dominant diesel is with bigger used cars.

I'd buy that V8 E39, but in the time I was in California it's been reserved by someone else, therefore the 550i Touring that Dramatic Hammer has found is now the leader, ticking the various boxes of "ludicrous engine" "petrol" "estate" "I quite like the colours" and "does not require finance".

Bmw parts and labour appear to be significantly cheaper though, looking at the order of magnitude between my e61 bill and dammit’s current Porsche bill(s)!

Can't stop looking at cars to buy... Would this be madness? Criteria, safe, reliable, enjoyable and relatively cheap to run.

Nice! Great cars these.
I used to have a spotless 1991 GL 4+E. Quite an interesting one as it had a factory injected 1.8 8v engine. Not far off 8v GTI performance but with long gears and velour!
Sold for a song of course. -

I know! No internal tent effect here.
Probably. 2 of 3 were running while we were still pulling boats around, circa 10 years back. Sea air’s not kind to the bits that aren’t aloominum though ;) I’m down there on weds, will poke around.
MOT'able?
After ten years by the sea you might need a dust pan and brush to sweep the remains up with but you never know. Please let me know if you would be willing to let any parts go to help save another.

Not at all, but check that all the gadgets work and budget for the usual cooling system overhaul.

I got my alloys refurbished here in Ealing:

Only ever done it once so don't know if they're better or worse than anywhere else; I'd go back if it needed doing again.

That number plate must've been added post Jobs. Considering he drove around without one for ages I can't see him having something so vain.
-
• #37919
Yeah i wondered if it was a vanity plate just for the auction or something

A few comments,
Nice tele dials...maybe try matching tyres ;)
What is the paint used on the caliper/carrier? Looks like the carrier has paint on the surface the pads are on. Is that right? Did you use any (ceramic brake) grease on the pins?
-
• #37923
Thanks, new tyres are the next job!
The calipers have been powder coated and any mating surfaces masked/cleaned off. I've not used grease on the pins as the workshop manual didn't call for it. Would you/do you normally grease your caliper pins?

Case in point.

Do you drive a mans car?
I know the place you mean. I don't know its name either but I rode past it 4x a weekend for the last 5 years...
