  • I haz. Personally prefer gravel kings. Horizons were skittish unless you were within the perfect pressure zone. They didn't like tubeless much, and I felt they rolled quite heavy.

    Gravel kings on the other hand were rapid, surprising traction up and down steep gravel without spinning out or losing the front end. i also set them up tubeless even though they weren't designed for it.

  • Looking to get a 12mm friendly 650b wheelset - suggestions? Have seen hunt wheel set and Planet X rim and novatec/bitex hub options so far

  • Bitex hubs, whichever mtb 650b rim is going cheap and tester approved alpine 3s

  • This. Planet x have cheap WTB rims

  • Thanks @Chak

    Anyone tried to put 650b to 2017/2018 CdF? I'm looking for good but quite cheap frames, that I could use with 650x47/48 tires, for now Surly Straggler seems OK, but maybe someone can recommend anything else?

    I'm considering parting with this frameset. This is it with 650x1.75 GKs
    Interested?

  • I prefer steel, but it looks nice. How does chain stay clearance look? And what size? You can drop me DM

  • A good friend of mine moved to Aus this last weekend so we welcomed him by building a tasty little Straggleurr:

  • I was eyeballing one in a shop yesterday and the chainstay is quite heavily curved, so you might lose clearance. Although I know others on here have had success, possibly with earlier models.

  • Also curious what size. If a medium I might be interested for my partner (if Shl doesn't want). Coolest Arkose paint job I think!

  • @sensom is that 650 straggler? what was the chain stay clearance with those tires? Damn, this looks nice.
    @Silly_Savage thanks for the info.

  • 'Tis indeed. I had expected a little more clearance, and the MTB tyres that were on the XT wheels had about 1mm at the chainstays, whereas the Horizon's fit with about 60mm on each side. It turned out waaaay lighter thank my Wolverine.

  • Well, 6mm on each side seems more than enough, so looks like Straggler gonna be my frame of choice.

  • That frame is crying out for some Schwable Big One in 60mm;

  • Nice bike, what size frame?

    I always wanted the 650b version but could never find a 54.

  • What's the bag?

  • would those 650b 60mm Big Ones fit the AWOL fork too?

  • 70mm between the fork legs around 290-295mm from the axle it should give you about 5mm clearance on each side of the tire.

  • https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/WBI25EGRS/wtb-st-i25-tcs-rim-on-el-guapo-rattlesnake-hubs - any reason why not with some different front end caps? Anyone had the rattlesnack hub experience?

  • would those 650b 60mm Big Ones fit the AWOL fork too?

    As it's a slick tyres with zero side knobs, it should.

    My Elephant NFE were build with 2.1 MTB tyres in mind, but with the Big One at 2.35, it actually fit with room to spare for the mudguard (previously can only take 2.1 MTB without).

  • I just realized I asked about tires in an awol fork but I meant arkose, would 2.35 fit in those too? And does anyone know what the difference in clearance in between the pre 2017 and current Arkose forks?

  • No probs so far for me

  • No.

    You're bordering on 60mm tyres at this point. 2017 forks can clear 50mm tyres. 2016 can just about clear 47mm

  • couple of things I noticed after a brief gap between 650b-ness.

    1. I can use a higher gear, I am guessing its down to the diameter?
    2. I can accelerate quicker, I guess the same reason?

    Also these wheels are crazy light and I am running tubeless.

    650b FTW!
