  • Bear in mind that all LBS I spoke to said that they charge no less for truing and tensioning wheels laced by someone else than for lacing them themselves. I can see why. The lacing is really only about 5 percent of the effort and is an opportunity for a punter to cockup.

    I went for a compromise of lacing them myself and then finding a friend who knows what they are doing to true and tension them for me, whilst I watched and occasionally had a go myself. I also provided the beer.

    If truing stands were less expensive I'd have done it all myself.

  • My LBS want £8 to unlace then £25 to build up fully or £15 just to tension.

    So I’m only saving £36, but I quite like tinkering with wheels.

    I looked at the Kinlins but prefer the TB14s and decided just to suck it up. :(
