DNS registrars will always be needed, I prefer Gandi. The fees are predominantly paid to the .tld registrar and so are not avoidable.
Once you have a registrar, then you can use a Cloudflare free account as the DNS nameservers, and manage your DNS records there and this would be 100% free and is superb (we have many products of varying quality, our DNS is the best in the world).
The only real advantage will be if Gandi take less of a cut as a middleman than easyspace do... probably, is the answer.
I've hosted my domain (mashton.com) with easyspace, since I bought it many years ago.
It's costing me 20quid per annum which seems like quite a lot as all I use is their DNS and MX record services.
It's up for renewal so I could switch now with no penalty.
Is there a go to, forum approved, registrar that will save me cash?
As I write this, it occurred to me that Cloudflare might be the right answer. @Velocio is it?
