  • I'll be up and down Box Hill a few times today. It's not too cold, there's a bit of a breeze and some rain in the air.

that should mean that I'll see one man and his dog in the 80 minutes or so I'll be running.

    perfect!

  • Ah, thanks all for the replies. Yes, I rarely sync with Garmin connect so satellite data may be out of date. Will sync more often and see if it improves.

  • When I'm running with people using the Forerunner 10, they have to wait a lot longer than me (by minutes) to get the satellites. My 220 usually picks up within 15 secs, even with high-rises around. So yeah, I'd say more expensive watch = less waiting around.

  • Avoid - takes fucking ages to get a GPS fix compared to my 910xt. Also the auto shutdown pissed me off too - Can't turn that feature off obvs.

  • Annoying since I just bought one of their cheapo (HA!) models for more than that...

edit: not too annoyed then :-)

  • Main things I didn't like about the 610 were the sponginess of the buttons - particularly annoying miss-hitting lap button when doing intervals - and the strap, from which I lost the little metal pin and ended up making a duct tape repair for most of its life. Feels heavy for the size as well. Much prefer the 220.

  • Oh, avoid sweatshop too. It's SportsDirect.

  • Having owned many many sports watches and more than a few forerunners, bottom like is that Garmins are fucking shit. My next watch will be a Suunto.

  • In an effort to ease the pounding on my feet at Meriden I've invested in some poles.

Anyone here used them much got any hints?

  • What are their names? Will they be carrying your kit?

  • I have a 10 km run in the morning in the Olympic Park. Can't remember the name of it. Anyone done it before? It's just six loops of a one mile course.

  • i imagine it is 6 loops of the road bike track. I've done a 5k on it and a few sprint duathlons. The elevation profile on Strava makes it look flat but there are some bumps.

I'm taking my kids to have flu squirted up their noses tomorrow which is a shame because I'd have come and played spot the Kev and shouted DAS.

    run well!

It's called the run through lea valley velopark 10k

  • Hilly Fields parkrun this morning, I nicked the V45 course record off my club mate. 17:15, which is officially 2 seconds outside my course PB, but I've reminded myself that was on the "Winter" course which according to my Strava log was marginally shorter and 115ft less elevation, so pretty happy with that. Not as windy as I was expecting. A nice sharpener with Beachy Head Marathon just 7 days away.

  • Thanks! It went ok, 5:17 pace for a km. The wind was atrocious though. On the back straight, I really wished that people would form a peloton. Seems like that's not a thing in running.

  • I think the most exciting part of the day was when my new Garmin watch synced with my Strava.

  • Which one did you get?

  • one of life's simple pleasures....

  • Having owned many many sports watches and more than a few forerunners, bottom like is that Garmins are fucking shit. My next watch will be a Suunto.

Just as a counterpoint, I've had one Forerunner 405 which is approaching it's sixth birthday and has had a handful of twitchy moments it's entire life.

  • 25 uphill, 12 down. Lost my compass on first proper downhill near Marsden after a Nav error (at the only point I really needed to Nav) then chasing back onto route with an open pocket.

Poles mostly great, especially when planting them to vault over the boggy stuff.

  • Mrs Cookiemonster got a Suunto ambit last christmas. £100 or thereabouts, and faultless

Much better than the garmins "customers are our beta testers" we'd had over the years

  • Had pretty much my first run since VLM where I felt like it was happening effortlessly, was only a 21k training run ahead of ballbuster duathlon in 2 weeks, still a way to go to get to good shape but hopefully I can build on the enjoyment of this week and only get better from here.

Currently 6kg heavier than i was in April but working on that too!

  • My 310xt is going strong almost 7 years later as well, although there’s more chance of them finding MH370 in one piece than that thing finding satellites quickly, and an ANT+ sync still takes longer than one of my long runs. It works... it’s just shite. Customer support is atrocious, luckily it’s no longer a one brand market.

  • Garmin forerunner 235 is my shout, anyway can feel the slow onslaught on shin splints again, just when I was starting to enjoy my running again. Any tips on combatting them?
