  • Agreed! The Kenyan good too. Be good to see how they settle down next week.

  • Thanks, will try that tomorrow. It should be good coffee though. The shop had really good cappuccino and a bag cost me 13,50€ for 250g

  • First Yellow Bourbon has arrived on the IoM.
    Thanks

  • A bit early to brew it without resting, but tried the YB espresso blend at work in our bean-to-cup and it was excellent.

  • A present from my friend, Philippines Mindanao Bundok Apo coffee beans. She tells me it's the best and impossible to get... hope it's not the one eaten and then pooped out by civet-cats.

  • Apo is just 'male relative' or something from memory. So just a place name I imagine. Luwak is typically the word you're looking for if you want to avoid caged animals. Or Motit or Alamid depending on region.

  • Bundok Apo appears to be a place on Mt. Apo - a volcano.

  • Daren't Google price. Looks good.

  • Percolated some this morning, absolutely delicious. Top work, @StevePeel!

  • Thanks for the kind words about the branding. I think with the packing option, this is one of those situations alluded to further up where there are limitations from using an off the shelf product. I have experience in a firm where they coded a site from the ground up to get over those problems, but my budget is about 10% of theirs. I think I’ll send subs in minimal packaging and single orders in boxes, in the same way that magazines don’t have all the features printed on the front for subscription editions because they don’t need to leap off the shelf.

  • And @rodabod Great news, glad you’re both enjoying the coffee.

  • I wants in on this Yeller Berben bandwagon. Ordered Brasilian and Nicaraguan. #hitmesteve

  • People know about this?
Coffee + nap is better than either alone?

  • Yes. I refer to it as a napaccino.

  • So I'm thinking of getting a coffee machine + grinder for my upcoming birthday. Until now I've been strictly a pour over/aeropress kinda guy.

I want to make Espresso, FW, Latte and usually for two people. Worktop space is at a relative premium. Budget as yet undecided but would be good to get options at different price brackets.

@StevePeel @dancing james and anyone else help gratefully appreciated :)

  • You want something on the small side like this...

Only about as big as a washing machine...

  • I had a La Pavoni Europiccola (wish I still had it but that story's not for the forum), it was great for 2 or 3 shots, but the steam wand needs a lot of practice - there are threads about modding them.

  • Get one of those pod things, coffee snobs love them

    runs away

  • I was recommended a rancilio silvia by those on here for a first machine, I still don’t know what I’m doing but the machine works great.

  • Espresso machine: A second hand Gaggia Classic can be found on eBay for 100-150 quid, people often throw in extras such as milk frothing jugs and tampers. IMHO this is pretty much the best bang for your buck, considering there is a massive user base and therefore care, repair and upgrade tips and tricks and spare parts are easy to come by. Rancilio Silvia is similar.

Grinder: I went for a Eureka Mignon, and can confirm it is tiny but great! I couldn't find any 2nd hand, so paid 300 quid new. Mazzer grinders are highly rated, but they're bigger and more expensive.

You're likely to find the grinder to be a big improvement, so there is always the option of buying a good grinder now and keep pouring & pressing until you've saved up some more.

  • ^Excellent advice that. Grinder first. You’re pissing in the wind trying to make espresso without a burr grinder and you can make a huge improvement to your brewed coffee in the meantime.

  • ^ & ^^ that said (and agreed with) look at how easy to adjust the grinder is if you want to quickly alternate between espresso & pour over grind settings. I have mc2 but still use porlex most days as mc2 takes forever to adjust so is set up for espresso only.
