hubs have the least ride impact
Unless they sound good. Because that's the most important bit.

Only CK or DT for rears.. Rings > Pawls.
Do wonder how Shutter Precision compares to SON.

SON are considered the gold standard.
SP are cheaper and slightly more efficient. Neither of them have user-serviceable bearings but some people seem to suggest SP aren't sealed as well as SON with reduced longevity.
I've used two different SP hubs for TCR, TABR, TCR and the CL one was making some noise after I crashed and had it rebuilt and then it sat unused for a year. So the bearings might be dying but then I rode a 100k audax with it on the weekend and it shut up again so fuck it I'm gonna drill that wheel until it dies.

I found this quite detailed and interesting set of pages about various dynamo hubs:
https://swhs.home.xs4all.nl/fiets/tests/verlichting/index_en.html#dynamo%27sI don't know what he's talking about regarding vibrations but he seems to have a bit of an engineering background and takes stuff apart, etc.

Just because inside of the hub is a circle of smaller individual magnets I would think. As the wheel spins it will not be entirely smooth as each magnet magnetic field interacts with the induction wiring (I'm guessing that's how they work). Making a slightly notchy feel which would be felt as vibration in the bars. Though I haven't felt that when I've (briefly) ridden a dyno hub.

I see. He must have fucking sensitive hands!
I can feel the notchiness when spinning a wheel by hand but in no way have I ever noticed it while riding. Perhaps he's spoiled with Dutch paths. Over here you need tank tracks just to get to work...

Thanks! Appreciate the info and feedback, looks like I have some reading to do.
I'm in the process of building a new gravel bike since I sold the AWOL so it won't see an awful lot of smooth Dutch paths... Though still not sure if I need a dynamo hub at all.
Thanks again!

Yes, I can clearly feel the notchiness when going fast on a super smooth road and 23c. It's not annoying or uncomfortable, mind you. And with 33c on more normal roads it's not there at all.

What's the camo one? More info/link. Very nice.

• #1566
Like it but do you really need deep rims on a gravel bike?
-
• #1567
do you really need
Oh wait, this is lfgss
-
• #1568
Well.. Do you really need a bike? Why are there bikes at all? What is the meaning of life!?
-
• #1569
True fact. Did Lol.

I used to work for Landyachtz! Putting graphics on skateboards on the heat press, so rad that they are making bikes now, the cargo bike looks dope

No way! Small world.. I did that once, hella satisfying.

They not doing a frameset option this year?
I never liked hopes tbf. Either go proper baller and get CK, or save your cash with cheap hubs because ultimately hubs have the least ride impact
