  • Yeah, I'd hope they new ones are more sturdy than the old ones.

  • What lens are you using for most of the photos? Great light and depth on these!

  • For the most part its a canon 35mm f2 (non IS version) or a 50mm f1.8 STM on a full frame sensor. Thanks, i like the whole natural light, dark shadows thing :)

  • great build and great reaction

  • 32 x 13, perf for bobbin round the city
this chain is worn - new will be snug
    needs real ss cog

    cheers @Eingang :)

  • Looks rad tbh :P
How did you manage to tension the chain properly? Just lucky or did you actually calculate some stuff? I can't see a half link.
I'm working on an SSMTB as well and the chain tensioner I bought looks pretty wank...

  • I have a DMR chain tensioner knocking about if you've got an 8 speed rear derailleur you can trade me :p

  • Bit of luck and a bit of destruction ;) Lined up a new 10 speed chain, turned out it was just shy of fitting perfectly, so i filed the dropouts. lol.

The 10 speed ended up breaking, but i think that was because it was a bit narrow for the chainring, so an outer plate popped off. Im going to buy a qual 8 speed chain once this gets here.

I agree, i try to avoid chain tensioners. Using half links is really nice, but it requires an 1/8" chain, and i hate running a wide chain on a narrow chainring :/

  • Ah, thank you for your detailed answer! I'll try my luck first as well then. :)

@-cv- I'm located in Hungary mate so it would be quite an expensive trade haha. And unfortunately I don't even have an 8sp rd. :P

  • Looks amazing!

Just wondering with the pizza rack - do you think you could attach it in a way that would still allow you to use a 3-bolt anything cage or even a 2-bolt bottle cage?

Otherwise, looks very clean and sits at a perfect height. I've got the 29er (L) Piolet and am debating a front rack for it.

  • Thanks! I was hoping the same before I bought it, but I cant really see a good way to do it tbh. The lowest part of the rack sort of spoils the mounts.

But if you think about it, its no big deal! When panniers are mounted, anything cages are pointless.. And if your not using panniers, then whatever you'd be strapping to the anything cages could mostly likely be strapped along the bottom of the rack anyways.

The way i see it, anything cages will be rad for a lighter trip with rougher terrain, where a rack may take away from fun shit while riding. Frame bag, seat pack, and two anything cages is a nice light weight setup im looking forward to trying.

  • Many thanks for letting me know, great look and clarity:)

  • Im pretty stoked on slowly converting my entire network to riding old mtb's.

This is a project i did for my cousin's cousin. He saw my GT and wanted something similar. We decided on a secondhand frame, and i went from there.

He just picked it up today - he's fully converted.

  • He doesn't seem so keen...

  • This looks awesome, the red lugs are fantastic!

  • that's his stoked face..

  • Both bikes look so good. Could I please have a ID on the bars and rack on the univega please?

  • Thanks dude! Bars are DMR Wingbar CroMo, and rack is called Alloy front carrier or something from SJScycles :)

  • Thanks for that. I was looking at that rack the other day, is it sturdy? Also what is the basket also? Sorry for so many questions.

  • Considering the short distance between top and bottom anchoring points, and the relatively cheap and light aluminum, its actually pretty decent! A cetma 5 rails (mounted at handlbars and axle and made of steel) is of course notably more sturdy.

But i put it on my GT and rode a whole day of trails and silly jumps with heavy lenses, camera, food, tools and clothes in it, and it was completely fine.

  • Oops, aaand the basket is a wald 137 @dazzrie

  • Wald and SJS is a banging combo

  • Spotter Cat, dentists recommend this setup!
