  • Didn't realise gloss was a requirement :)

  • @PhilDAS it wasnt actually, but i do like me some gloss..

Build is comin along smoothly. 11-42 10 speed is mindblowing.

The rack sits nice and low, but still needs a bit of tweaking to get it dialed 100p. It makes the bike look pretty nose heavy, especially considering the already bulky bars. A seat bag will help balance it out a bit.. Pizza rack may end up only getting mounted for longer trips, where as some anything cages and frame bag will suffice for something shorter.

The original plan was actually to pick up a few Rawland Demiporteur racks while in the US a few months ago, but they failed to inform that their webshop no longer worked, yet totally looked like it did. So after a long wait and some lame ping ponging back and forth, i was already back in denmark, with no racks, and no european rawland dealer in sight.

Pizza rack is good cuz it can do both panniers and a load on top, but i feel id be more inclined to leave a demiporteur on all the time. (as if this bike is for me)

Brakes mounted up like a charm. Shimano M396 brakes are serious value for money. Bite is already starting to improve after a few chainless roll arounds, which was to be expected with new pads and rotors

Anyone had success with shortening hydraulic cables without having to bleed/burp? Im thinking ill give it a try, and bleed if it gets spungy.

  • looks so good!

  • pizza rack is good cuz it can do both panniers and a load on top, but i feel id be more inclined to leave a demiporteur on all the time.

I'm currently debating a pizza rack vs a surly 8 pack. 8 pack but cant do panniers, but is much stiffer and smaller.

  • I don't think it looks nose heavy at all - but I guess it is a matter of preference.
    Good looking bike already though.

  • Yea it aint easy. IMO the surly racks are a bit busy too look at. Also kinda seems like an over engineered adjustment/mounting system. The 24pack can get away with it because of its size and machoness, but its almost overkill on the 8pack, considering its more elegant size. But then again, stiffness and weight and size are pretty important boxes, which the 8pack ticks.

    Thanks! @togas and @MisterMikkel :)

Heres what she got. Shes mega stoked to say the least! (there was also a pair of Fjällräven pants and a bag of Haribo Matador mix in the frame bag)

Trimming cables and dialing in fit is the next step. Then of course a good bike camping trip :D

  • Sorry if I've missed it but whats the rear rack/saddlebag thing? Bike looks great. On the topic of trying to trim cables without bleed, pretty difficult to get right. You'll need new olives and barbs anyway (these should be supplied with the brakes if you bought new). I would just buy the bleed stuff as youll need it eventually

  • No worries, its this thing - https://ridepdw.com/products/bindle-rack im planning on using an Alpkit tapered drybag with it.

You're right, ill need it at some point.. Ive got olives and inserts, so i think ima take a stab at it without bleeding just for kicks.

  • Neat little product. Looks like it'll fix the 'swinging saddlebag' issues everyone seems to have without resorting to a proper rack. Does it feel solid? I pretty much live in the South Downs now and am having dirty thoughts about some bike camping trips

  • Dope bike

  • It feels super solid, also when out of the saddle. I had a slackline (which is pretty heavy) and another random metal object strapped to it, and was bombing through the city without really noticing it.

  • Thanks peeps^^

Aint too many things better than building an awesome bike for and awesome person and getting an awesome reaction..

  • The Mrs looks stoked—nice one mate!

Also that bindle rack looks great. Anyone know who's PDW distributor in UK?

  • Brilliant. The finished thing looks rad

  • Cheeeers! I think Charliethebikemonger and Tritoncycles have em, as far as i remember.

  • looks superb mate! well done!

  • A fork popped up on the local classifieds with the perfect length steerer.

Some old White industries cranks popped up of the local classifieds

    Plan:
-Singlespeed (banking on the perfect gear ratio/chain length)
    -HS11 magura hydraulic rim brakes
    -beater silver wheels
    -Schwalbe tabletop tires
-silver chainring (94bcd 5 hole is a bitch)
-no mudguards, no gears, no worries

  • Yes to hs33! Fluro?

Also TA and middleburn both do 5 administration 94bcd

  • Haha should be fun. Nah not fluro, but these happen to be a better match for the build imo. Dem massive levers with the huge moto style bulb at the end. Classics

    -pic from internet

  • Agreed - I think these are some of the best looking brake levers

    Also mechanical advantage ftw.

  • I've got a single (rear) fluro Magura (lever & calipers). Might need a bit of servicing. You're welcome to it if you feel like covering postage from London. No worries if not, going to donate it to the bike charity next time I go.

EDIT: Might not actually be the same model. I'll check.

  • VO is fire!

  • Awesome girlfriend bike!! Love the pizza/bindle combo! What is the gear ratio?

  • Thanks a lot for the offer man! But i think as long as ive got a set that works, donating them to the bike charity makes more sense :)

@MisterMikkel yea that does look pretty good. I think ive got an old pair of those in silver somehwere (or at least something very similar), but they are super janky in the hinge..

    @bankiren Thanks buddy!

@megl Tak for det! Ratio is 34t chainring with a 11-42 cassette
