Starting times are no different in an office. I start work at 9am that doesn't mean I get there at 9am on the dot as your employer expects you to be ready to start working at 9am not just getting in a making a coffee etc some arrive 30mins before some 2 mins its up to the attitude of the person.
I worked in retail for years and yes its shit low paid work but if you like it and what you are selling / the industry then you help people. If you don't give a fuck then you get people that are very unhelpful like that whats happened.
At least you know not to go to the same shop again.
This also shows that some people have no idea about other peoples working environments and maybe shouldn't comment on them if they don't.
