For full hipster points you have to go Japanese https://www.niwaki.com/store/okatsune-secateurs/
Actually to be serious, my brother who is a landscape gardener swears by his Japanese ones.

Question of my own...
I need to build a couple of retaining walls, both a max of about a metre deep, one is 10 metres long, one closer to 30.
Looking into options, I am rubbish at blockwork so that is ruled out, Sleepers are possible, but I suspect would work out to be much £££ and if I use proper reclaimed ones will leach creosote through the summer. Last option I have thought of is to use Gabion baskets, I have about 200 tonnes of flint in a pile in the back garden, so filling them won't be an issue, and they work out a lot cheaper than sleepers and in theory should last longer.
Has anyone else got any bright (cheap!) ideas that don't involve paying someone more skillful than me?

Realise I may be late on this,
but all the cool kids are using mycorrhizal fungi powder to encourage the growth of the secondary root system to harvest the nutrients released by the fungi. -

Timber yard near me, (Watfordish), is cutting 225by45 semi-sleepers, in softwood.
Got their own treatment tank as well, running on the green coloured TanalithE. -

can anyone enlighten me on the subject of pruning roses?

What flavour? You can cut them down now if they're ramblers, take out the old stems and cut the rest down two thirds, handful of bonemeal and mulch.

Anybody ever installed an automated watering system?
Do, say, Hozelock, offer everything one needs? -

one's a trad looking english one and the other is a hybrid tea - both looking leggy

Only if flowering has finished.
Trim down by about a third now then in January take right down to just a few twigs poking out the soil trimming to just above a couple of good buds. -

Yes they do, and it’s all on Amazon for your convenience.

Thanks, I’ll try that elsewhere but the trees are ankle deep in poo. RHS says it’s either or, fungus or poo not both.

I've not installed one, I looked into it a couple of years ago but never pulled the trigger. I think Hozelock will give you everything you need (no idea if they're the best value or not).
It looks good fun to plan it all too - like a big construction kit.

My dad put one in 15 or so years ago. Mum recently replaced the control unit but other than that it’s been a hassle free godsend for her hanging baskets.

Yeah, I sometimes can't be bothered to go back to the house when gardening. ;)
Thanks for your prompt answers.

Anything can be delivered these days.
https://www.watfordtimber.co.uk/delivery/Note the 'half-a-sleeper' is cut to order, so I'm on a 5-day wait list,
for cutting/treating (and hopefully draining).Failing that, you must have a local timber yard that would cut down
200x100 new softwood sleepers for you. -

True...
Think i will have to price it all up properly and then make a decision.

If I had the space, and the 200T of flint,
I would be very tempted by the gabions,
especially if you incorporated some planting pockets in them for instant plant life. -
• #2098
Space and stone are not an issue! Tempted by trying to incorporate plant pots inside the framework to grow from.
Need something that grows as quickly as ivy but not so horrible!

Yes I know what he meant lol, the point I was trying to make from my experience of planting treees, with added stuff and different methods like one tries, I simply find that staking and planting to the right height are far more important than adding bonemeal fungi etc, I'm not saying they don't work or help but you can plant a tree without and get perfect results, I do believe that with too much goodness in the planting hole doesn't encourage the roots to spread out, cheers
Tree killed by fox that's a new one on me, I find inner tubes make great tree ties and if using only one stake then point towards the prevailing wind personally I would use a 2x2 stake which can be easily found attached to estate agent signs,
