• All groupset preference hyperbole aside, I really don't agree with that.

  • Me neither. I've used Campagnolo, Shimano and SRAM caliper brakes, and they all perform well if set up correctly and are using good quality pads. I'd be hard pressed to choose one over the others.

I rode with a pair of those lightweight Planet-X brakes for a bit, they were genuinely scary in the lack of braking power they had.

  • I really like my PX lightweight one too...

    Maybe I'm not very fussy.

  • I have a weird obsession with lever and brake feel, and I've done a lot of research. Brakes tend to work best when you're using the same system (Shimano levers and brakes etc etc) but even then I really don't like Campag brakes. The lever throw is shitty, they don't clamp affirmatively and the spring tension isn't precise.

SRAM brakes and SRAM levers work well, but single pivot brakes mean I can't really use them on my tiny lil bikes. Dual pivot all the way. Nicest feeling brakes I've got is 6870 levers, DA cables and 6800 brakes on my Canyon. Absolute bliss. Going to tidy up the ends on my Etap -> R8000 when the calipers turn up today. Was very good on DA9k but could be improved with rounded off cable ends and a lil lube in the pipes.

My method is shimano cable cutter > file outers > fill with silicone grease. Obv swissstop pads. The additional factor in R8000/9100 brakes is the 'booster' plate and beefier construction.

  • silca .. so much want

  • I saw the other day that silca make a pump where you can monitor the pressure via bluetooth/phone.

    whack.

    Technology is passing me by...

    getting oldz

  • I asked them what you do when it’s raining or muddy and you don’t have anywhere to lay your phone down while you pump and got called out by a load of fanboys on Facebook :/
    Shit idea
    Csb

  • I have a lil tyre pressure checker. They're good for cross.

  • I long for the days where you just guessed the distance you rode and assumed you'd put in a good effort if you were mildly out of breath at the end.

(Yesterday, I discovered after months of garmin fail that my firmware was 10 versions out of date. Grandma felt like a dope)

  • Finished the winter / gravel / adventure bike today too...

  • Sick.

  • this one looks like great fun, but the genesis still takes the biscuit imo

  • I'll take some photos of the Genesis today. It's had a little facelift...

  • Boom. Finished.

  • Oooosh, rowdy. Perfect (other than thomson)

  • Dream machine 👌👌👌

  • What’s your beef with the Thomson? I will buy a new Deda Superleggero seatpost when they’re back in stock but there’s nothing wrong with a thomson masterpiece

  • Nothing wrong with them at all. They’re strong and pretty light. They’re just on every build ever (granted not masterpiece)

  • Style for miles dude. Well done!

  • Lovely bikes! The genesis is banging!

  • ^^^ Looks fucking terrible.
