  • Are they local (would that be Catalan police force)? Or did they ship in some thugs from somewhere else to do all that?

  • They shipped in the national police ("guardia civil"). The local police (Mossos d'Esquadra) were ordered to assist them but they mainly stood by or protected voters.

  • Interesting post, thanks.

  • The image is from 2013 (although shows the guardia civil are well known state thugs)

  • In Europe in general, it has never been a good tactic to meet the demands of a minority language group by arguing some form of "c'mon.... it's not like there is that many of you.."

  • On a lads holiday to lloret de mar about 14 years ago we saw some guy who was fall down drunk in the late afternoon but mainly being loud/annoying rather than violent/aggressive and some police turned up in a riot van, baton'd the shit out of his legs and gave him some choice whacks once on the floor then dragged him 50yds to the van where they jammed his face into the gap created by the door hinge between the rear door and the van itself then and then leant on the door so it closed on him while they then stood and had a bit of a casual natter between themselves while he screamed in pain before dumping him in the back and driving off.

that was when I learned you don't fuck with spanish police.

  • Sadly your experiences of contemporary Barcelona still stand to this day. You get treated better by locals if you don’t speak the language as a foreigner. I’ve had the shame shit by young and old. It’s one of the main reasons I’d never consider living there as much as I like the city.

I’ve got family (in laws) over there. None of them voted, they’re entitled to do so but if it would have been a proper referendum they would have voted against it. Not sure how people that were not in favour feel after the weekend.

They’re originally basque and all 4 kids received a nice letter from that wonderful organisation when they were 18 reminding them to pay their dues to their homeland.

  • Las Vegas shooter has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock.

this could of course be bullshit.

  • Last summer this pissed up twat at Palma airport thought it was a good idea to shout and scream at the local guardia civil. They took care of him alright. Kept him busy for long enough to miss his flight and then some.

  • It’s all a bit horrible but it’s also a case in point that open carry doesn’t mean incidents like this get avoided as easily as some of the NRA apologists will lead you to believe.

  • not entirely sure how "good guys with guns" are supposed to deal with some arsehole who's holed himself away twenty stories above the people he's trying to murder.

    horrible indeed.

  • BBC now reporting the numbers as 50 dead, 200 injured in vegas

  • Nope, you don't fuck with those guys...

I know someone who got collared for serving up at a club in Malaga, had his balls electroshocked by sadistic drug cops... His mum bailed him out and and never went back for the court date... He's a tosser tho', definitely deserved it...

  • My bad for missing that part out. Hadn’t realised he was holed up in a hotel room.

  • again - i'm only going on the sketchy, unverified details available. it's quite possible my understanding is bollocks too.

  • It is going to be a long and tedious investigation. We are bringing in all the resources of the FBI to assist us in this investigation.

That's a bit of an odd word to use.

  • tedious because they might have to admit that the worst mass shooting on US soil wasn't conducted by someone who neatly fits their ISIS narrative.

  • White shooter = mentally ill.

  • Paddock, 64, was a resident of Mesquite, Nevada, a retirement and golf community of about 20,000 people, a police spokesman confirmed.

“We don’t have a lot on Mr Paddock,” Mesquite police spokesman Quinn Averett said. Mesquite PD records held no report of any contact with Paddock, Averett said. No calls for service, no arrests, not even a record of a traffic stop."

    Bizarre.

  • Paranoia that makes people believe they need guns = mental illness

  • Yep.

Didn't stop the first* reports claiming terrorist attack.

*first I heard from a colleague with US friends on social media.

  • It is a terrorist attack. Just not the kind of terrorist some people seem to want

  • they should go to his place and turn his tv on, i bet it's set to fox news.

  • They will never call it Domestic Terrorism. Which it is.
