let's be honest, it's a bit like setting up tubeless on non-tubeless rims with non-tubeless tyres. A lot of times (maybe most of the times) it works fine, however it isn't a sure thing.

That looks like it could be fun if it didn't rain all day.

Look forward to hearing more about how this rides? Was all set on getting a Spesh Diverge, but just saw this on the Orro website, with the newer Ultegra £100 less that the 105 specced Spesh and comes colour correct for me.
Will let you know when I've ridden it more. Right now I am wondering why Orro used a 150mm rear axle, which means I need to get the rear on my second set of wheels rebuilt with a new hub because you can't convert a narrower Hope Pro 4 to 150mm, you have to buy a new hub. Bit annoying.
Fortunately LBS might be able to sort me out with a cheaper than normal hub through a trade contact. Don't get why they didn't use 142mm though as that's the emerging standard.

That's interesting.
Took the Sequoia out for a test ride today courtesy of Sigma, and although it was pretty dull and lifeless on the road, once I took it along the muddy path along the river, it was a lot of fun. This has blurred my options somewhat. I was convinced I wasn't going to find the Sequoia much fun as it's quite a heavy bike, but I was smiling like an idiot as I tried not to ride into the river. I do think something like the Orro or Diverge might be more nimble off road and a little more fun on road. But who knows. So far, I've just ridden the Sequoia so it's the leader so far.

Vulture question, does this mean you have a spare Pro 4 hub?

Ive had my sequoia for a year now, and it's exactly as you say.....I'll add though, that the longer you ride it for, the less the weight becomes an issue......it turns into momentum, as you adapt your riding style to suit. The wheels are shit though.

• #1340
What wheels did you replace the stock ones with? I was all set up on not enjoying the ride but now I'm strongly considering this over the Diverge or other

• #1341
I haven't as yet, I'm just waiting for my cycle to work to be approved! Our HR dept is shocking!
I'll be ordering two sets of Hunt wheels though, 700c and 650b, plus the associated adaptors to convert between QR and the sequoia standard, which is 12x100 and 12x142 bolt through. Then I'll be able to switch them between a couple of different bikes. -

I had a Croix de Fer before this, it was 12kg, which for me is too fucking heavy. I don't really agree with the 'you'll stop noticing the weight' thing. You won't up hills or in the nimbleness (for want of a better word) of the bike. But I don't like heavy bikes.
I did 40 miles on the Orro on Sunday that was nearly all off road but had a stretch of Essex B roads about half way to join up two off road parts. Despite having knobbly tyres on the Orro still felt fast, I literally looked down and realised I was easily doing 25+ mph. CdF was not like that and that's what I wanted, something that would be good off road but also fast on it.

Should do in due course yeah - black, rear (obvs) 28h.
-
• #1344
I have the Croix de Fer at the moment as well, and agree, the weight is always something that bothered me when the road went up, which is why I was looking at something lighter.
Where did you get the Orro from? Direct or from LBS? Would like to try one for size but don't think there are any shops that stock the Terra C.
-
• #1345
My LBS - Hub Velo in Clapton. They definitely have the standard Terra in, I test rode that before putting the order in for the C. They are quite similar but they did tweak the geometry for the C.
There's been a lot of interest in mine so they might be up for getting another carbon frame in to demo. What size do you think you'd be? I'm 5ft 9" and ride the medium (effective TT is 55.3).
-
• #1346
I'm 5"9 or there abouts. I rode the 56cm Sequoia which worked out well for me yesterday.
Interesting what you said about the rear hub spacing. Are there many options for 150mm since 142mm since to the "standard" as best as I can tell.
-
• #1347
Normally, that's what I think too.... but I don't know whether it's material/geometry/something else, but it's true. At first you think 'fucking heavy' then it progresses to 'normal', then it goes to the momentum thing after three or four hours..... it weighs a gnats cock under 29lbs in a 58 set up tubeless.

• #1348
Are you using the base model Sequoia or the one with carbon forks?
-
• #1349
You'd be welcome to have a go on mine.
If you buy one from Hub Velo I'll get commission in coffee and cake so I have a vested interest :)
I had a look after realising it's 150 and there are some decent options including DT Swiss etc. - weirdly hubs aren't limited to DH hubs only despite it being mainly a DH width. As Tester says there are no standards anyway...
-
• #1350
Yeah, base model.... I'd probably put the carbon fork on if I could buy one though.....
