Is this 1 1/8 threadless?
-
• #78
Its so much better than the Victoire wank that won last year ..

1” threadless for vanity reason, as the 1 1/8 headtube would look unusual with the skinnier Down and top tube.

Beautiful looking build! From what I have read the Weigle was let down by the fact that they didn't have an adequate written presentation and that the public vote was taken amongst a crowd of sportive riders. I would love to have the cash to have something like this built, are there any off the peg frames that have low trail geometry which could be built in this style?

The Concours de Machines is also not a nostalgia meet about late 40's replicas. Although I'll agree that some of the most innovative bikes can be a bit of a mess (Cyfac Oxymore...).

This style is debatable but Soma Grand Randonneur (cantis) come to mind, Elephants NFE (disc) and Box Dog Pelican too (cantis)

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Soma is a great off the peg way to go for trying out 650b. Loving mine atm. Super fun bike to ride.

@edscoble I imagine he does 1 1/8 as well? £££?
@floatingcyclist which deceluer are you running on the soma?
-
• #87
Basically I suspect the poor fit of the VO deceluer is killing my crabonz steerer tube day by day
-
• #88
Oh he does do 1 1/8, just that the steerer will look bigger than the down and top tube, which is why I shy away from it.
Ironically enough the seatpost on this build is 31.6mm!

Had my bike serviced at the shop where this is last week. Looks spot on - the paint is immaculate in the flesh

VO decaleur. But if you are planning having a rando bag up front, beware the rack to decaleur height. On the small GR which I'm riding, the fixing point ended up quite low (14cm). This only became apparent as a potential issue during the custom bag making process. I'm not sure I would have got an off the peg bag to fit. There are of course numerous other decaleur options.

Disc brake still dead tho.

• #95
Except I didn’t change my mind several time throughout the build.
Actually would be more appropriate to says 130mm+ are dead

Dan didn’t says any issues with components so it sound like the 14-28 6 speed with 46/30 chainset and Dura Ace 7400 derailleurs actually work well.
Was worried about the 16t capacity as older derailleur aren’t really designed for this in mind.

Also very excited to see this (obvious comment is obvious)
Not really, it won't win it that's for sure like the Peter Weigle's fully equipped 9.1kg randonneur bike;
