@birofunk I do like Aberlour
@bikes_knob Well, it's a nice place in a pretty location, the visitor centre staff are great, they do tours, they also do this thing where you can fill and label your own bottle from a cask if that's your thing. It's only a few miles from Huntly where it's easy to find cheap accommodation. It's a 14 mile hike to the nearest distillery.
So it's worth visiting if it fits into your route. It's not far from the dense cluster of Speyside distileries.
I've now run two cycling tour of Aberdeenshire and Speyside distilleries. You might find some of the information useful. Once you're in Speyside, there's great riverside paths, footbridges and myriad ways to plan a route between the distilleries (I've added visitor opening times and other details to most of those that are open to the public). A walk from, say, Aberlour to Cardhu to Cragganmore would be good but there's plenty other options.
Don't bother with Macallan. It's a huge industrial site.
Would you recommend visiting the Glendronach distillery? I'm going on a distillery hiking tour next year and haven't decided which to visit yet.
