Hmm... no one complaining about this 'life ban' but heaven forbid a doper or motordoper lose their racing rights...
-
• #14078
The issue with life bans is the same as the death penalty.
I do despise dopers, but it's not as simple as to wave a brush.
-
• #14079
It is. Riders are still innocent until proven guilty. If they're guilty, ta ta! don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.
"Oh sorry judge, I didn't notice the extra kilo of weight in my bike and had no idea what this hidden button was for..."

But chicks dig scars
And glory lasts forever.

I agree with this.
It's necessary in a credible sport. It should take a bit more than 'wearing hats and having insight' or 'being an exciting rider' before someone regains their credibility.
The death penalty analogy doesn't really stand up. If absolutely incontrovertible proof emerged that someone had not doped intentionally then a life ban could be rescinded. A loss of life obviously can't.

So Lappartient wants to
REGROUP OUR 4 CYCLING OLYMPIC DISCIPLINES FOR A SINGLE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP EVERY 4 YEARS
On the surface that sounds ace, but it does mean waiting four years for a Worlds rather than having one every year, and a single rider wearing the rainbow hoops for four years who isn't Sagan. I like the idea the hoops mostly are handed over every year.
Also the Olympics miss out a shit load of the best track events, which is why the World Track Champs are much better that the track at the Olympics. Ditto MTB; no downhill or 4x at the Olympics. Downhill at the very least should be an Olympic sport and a World Champs should certainly include it.
And off the top of my head trials riding, BMX and MTB dirt-jumping, freeriding, would love to see this all included in some massive festival of cycling. Ooh I got myself excited.
But if he wants to just offer up the Olympic disciplines then I'd rather it all stay as it is.

I think once he does the sums, he'll quickly realise holding the worlds annually is best for the UCI (especially their bank balance, as it's their main source of income).
My mate was dismissed this morning, so no messing about.

Anal Worlds or GTFO >>>
Yes, I am aware that says Anal.

Is this U23 course the same as the men's?
-
• #14086
Yes with the exception that they have to stop for a mandatory snapchat/facebook/twitter browse on lap 3 and on lap 5 they must complete a boat race using not less than 500ml of Euro lager.

Shame. INRNG makes the claim one of the reasons of Cookson's downfall was the fact he filled a lot of the top jobs with Brits. I think the biggest reason was Makarov switching allegiance, he seems to be the main powerbroker. Also promising the Worlds to Africa.
There is a sense that Cookson was a useful tool to oust McQuaid, and decent PR for the organisation after a toxic decade or more, and now they want things back to the way they were.

And they get to skip a lap if they get 1,000 likes yes?
The hill looks quite benign really.
Some twat has hung a Spurs flag by the side of the course. Hope it's removed in time for tomorrow. This is proper sport.

I think it's normal for a new president to bring in his own staff. My friend had worked at the UCI previously, under McQuaid, so he was valuable in helping Cookson navigate the UCI's structure and decision making process.

I thought all Norwegians were Liverpool fans, or is Pisti wrong?
-
• #14091
I'll have my people remove that shitty flag. :)

On second thoughts, I don't have the bad vibez of the football thread dragged in here. Shouldn't have brought it up.

I can vouch that pisti is wrong, GF's dad loves United, also a big player of that other great "sport" Golf.
Where in London will be showing the Worlds? Is Rapha likely to be rammo? Preferably near Euston, as need to get a train at 4.
-
• #14094
I know Pisti is wrong, he usually is.
I used to work near Euston, can't think of anywhere that would be showing the race off the top of my head.

Possibly the last comment on the Lauren Dolan cut, but anyone else thinking the bleeding alone should be reason enough to take her out of the race? For aesthetic reasons so to speak?
I follow MMA a fair bit and there are matches that turn into splatter fests. The connoisseurs love pointing out that you can't tell the severity of the wound from the amount of blood spilled. Fair enough, but I just feel something wrong happens when we become desensitised to the sight of someone soaked in blood.

They've still got over 80 kms to go, so the race is likely to last another 2 hours at least. It's probably best to avoid spoilers and catch the last hour later.
Exactly. 8k at race pace bleeding a bit vs. life long regret not finishing a World Champs.
