seriously though - rights of light insurance. I write a report 9caveated to fuck, natch), that outlines the risks, the legal standings, the impact of the proposed development, then I provide compensation budgets for what I think it will take to negotiate a deal with the neighbours to release their light.
RoL insurance covers you for the financial costs of the neighbour successfully gaining an injunction, the premiums are based up my comp budgets. I get a referrers fee, for introducing the client to the broker, which is based upon the cost of the premium!
[edit - the absurd thing is that I have been doing this for 15 years and not one neighbour has ever wanted to protect their light more than they wanted the compensation. see previous post - we all want our slice...]
