I've recently finished a bottle of the Highland edition. Was ok as camping whisky, but nowt special.
Have a bottle of the Islay in the cupboard, fingers crossed...

Glendronach
Heh, was at that distillery two weeks ago and we sampled most of their stuff - all good, particularly the 21yo. I like Highland whiskies but a lot of people will not like the sherry/low-or-no-peat thing. Peat is all a lot of people expect from whisky now, especially since so many previously non-peated whiskies went peaty to satisfy the chinese market.
I like peat too but there are other ways to make a malt and the market got more boring as a result.

The Highland isn't the best by quite a bit TBH.

In Tokyo for a few days - anything worth picking up here that either you can't get, or is more expensive than at home?

Lord yes. There are lots of limited releases for the Japanese market that never make export.
Look here for inspiration.

Any recommendations on a bottle for about £50? Iv got plenty of Japanese whisky, maybe something isla based?

Pro tip; should your cork detach from the top stopper, you need a Butlers Thief.
Thought I'd share as took me a little while to find. -

Lagavulin 16 - usually £48 in supermarkets - not many come close

Would you recommend visiting the Glendronach distillery? I'm going on a distillery hiking tour next year and haven't decided which to visit yet.

Couple of cask strength bottles to add to the collection. Very excited about the Redbreast, one of the best whiskeys to come out of Ireland IMO.

@birofunk I do like Aberlour
@bikes_knob Well, it's a nice place in a pretty location, the visitor centre staff are great, they do tours, they also do this thing where you can fill and label your own bottle from a cask if that's your thing. It's only a few miles from Huntly where it's easy to find cheap accommodation. It's a 14 mile hike to the nearest distillery.
So it's worth visiting if it fits into your route. It's not far from the dense cluster of Speyside distileries.
I've now run two cycling tour of Aberdeenshire and Speyside distilleries. You might find some of the information useful. Once you're in Speyside, there's great riverside paths, footbridges and myriad ways to plan a route between the distilleries (I've added visitor opening times and other details to most of those that are open to the public). A walk from, say, Aberlour to Cardhu to Cragganmore would be good but there's plenty other options.
Don't bother with Macallan. It's a huge industrial site.

Redbreast 12 is delicious. Received a bottle for my birthday a few years back from my gf.
Just got a bottle of Glenmorangie Nectar d’or as a gift. Also lovely, very caramely and easy to drink!

Laphroaig 10 is only 28 quid on amazon for any peat fans.

Was sending something at the post office, noticed they had a sign up saying 50% off all booze. Walked out with a bottle of Cragganmore 12 for 15 quid. It's damn nice!

I don't usually go for anything Irish.
Do you know anything about Teelings or similar? I have a taster here. Smells nice at least. -

I had the small batch a couple of years ago, was pretty tasty.

Knocking back some bowmore no1 at the mo, cheap from Sainsbury's. Going down pretty smoothly...
I'm drinking a bunnahabhain at the moment, great stuff.
