• do some research, as you are not likely to get a pinch flat you can drop roughly 5-10psi compared to having a tube

but tyre pressure should related more to rider/bike/load weight, weight distribution and tyre size

  • Flying with tubeless wheels. Have let the air out of my wheels, is the bike box going to be a jizzy mess upon arrival?

  • Also curious to know the answer to this.

  • You want to know about jizzy mess in my box?

  • I thought holds were pressurised these days.

  • Airlines ask for tyres to have the air let out.

  • Just go rogue and keep a little air in

  • I think I've flown quite a few times without bothering (or forgetting) to let the air out of my tyres.

  • Expect 10% increase in pressure - they don't do full pressurisation.

  • First foray into tubeless, I've got tubeless rims which came set up with Gorilla tape. I've got GravelKings (the non tubeless ones) which appeared to seat themselves with a track pump yesterday, but didn't hold air for more than about 2mins. No sealant in there yet. Is that all sounding right so far?

Am I right in thinking, if it looks like it's seated, I can glug some sealant in there and pump it up, swish it around, and all should be ok?

  • I deflated them to 20psi, carried a bit of sealant and CO2 cartridge just in case the bead comes off, all fine, inflated them on arrival.

  • I usually drop road tyres to about 15psi. Enough air so it still holds its shape and offers some rim protection.

The time I forgot to deflate from 100psi one of my inner tubes exploded.

  • Oooh, there's a PITA I didn't think about before filling my tyres with jizz.

  • bikeboxallen need tyres deflated to fit anyway.

  • My velovault doesn't need flat tyres

  • So clearly it depends on what tyres you're using and what box you're using. Airline requirements are thus irrelevant if you need to deflate anyway. Thanks for playing. Goodnight America.

  • No problems with tyres seating after re-inflating after flying, take some more sealant with you to top up when landed. No mess usually.....

  • my (GK non tubeless ones) stayed up with some Stans sealant in and have been fine for last 1000miles - mine are on Pacenti rims though. I would put 50ml ish into one and see

  • If the beads went on with a crack then it sounds good. I've got a set of road wheels with a single wrap of Gorilla tape.

I put on a set of 650×38 GK at the weekend and one went up and sealed almost perfectly straight away. The other one wasn't so well behaved and after finding the big rim leak, it took a while to find and seal a small sidewall leak at 50psi.

Use a washing up liquid solution to find the biggest leaks first, then work on minor leaks or go and ride them.

  • Talking about leaks... What is the general pressure loss that you guys experience? Across the 4 wheels I've currently got set up tubeless I'm at about 5-10psi per week.

  • Anyone tried Hutchinson Sector 28?

  • Yep

One cut badly and another split along a mould line.

    But felt grippy and fast.

  • I'm fucked if I can get my g-ones to hold pressure. I'm still building the bike so there's no sealant in there, but I rather thought they should seal without it- hopelessly naive?

  • I wonder why there isn't a user generated database about succesful tubeless tire/rim/pressure/sealant combinations aka. the old LFGSS Transmission database thread

  • In my limited experience, tyres have sealed without goop.

How long do they stay inflated?
