Could be oxidisation on the connectors? a very gentle rub with something abrasive would get it off
I've scraped mine out with a small screwdriver before and inserted the USB connector a few times to clean it out. This was on an 800 with mini USB not the 1000 though which uses the smaller micro USB and is likely trickier to do.
