I'm thinking of doing a last minute ride out from Calais to Amsterdam and back. Usually I'm a methodical planner but this time I really have left it late, i'll be leaving this Wednesday.
I'm wondering how easy it'll be to find cheap & bike-safe overnight accommodation without booking, i.e. just turning up in a random village in the early evening. I was considering bivvying but the cold these last couple of weeks has scared me off I think.
Also does anyone have any experience of the LF1 North Sea route? I don't really have time to plan anything exciting so i'll probably just follow that unless someone has something I could use.
Any places to see en route or general recommendations?
I've ridden the LF1 from Hook Van Holland to Amsterdam. Its excellent quality and reasonably well signposted. If you can deal with english cycle routes you'll be fine, barely even need a map/phone. It can be bloody windy though...
