  • I'm thinking of doing a last minute ride out from Calais to Amsterdam and back. Usually I'm a methodical planner but this time I really have left it late, i'll be leaving this Wednesday.

I'm wondering how easy it'll be to find cheap & bike-safe overnight accommodation without booking, i.e. just turning up in a random village in the early evening. I was considering bivvying but the cold these last couple of weeks has scared me off I think.

Also does anyone have any experience of the LF1 North Sea route? I don't really have time to plan anything exciting so i'll probably just follow that unless someone has something I could use.

Any places to see en route or general recommendations?

    On with the research. Ta.

  • I've ridden the LF1 from Hook Van Holland to Amsterdam. Its excellent quality and reasonably well signposted. If you can deal with english cycle routes you'll be fine, barely even need a map/phone. It can be bloody windy though...

  • I'd just go with booking.com at lunch time ish work out where you want to be. On the notes state you have a bike. Most places are usually pretty helpful.
    Maybe I've missed the point
