  • Yep - tbf I started in Prem but really understood NLEs properly by having to use Media Composer when I worked in a newsroom (even though I took those lessons back to Prem when I left). Like you I'd probably find Resolve clunky to work with - seeing all the nodes etc when I sit in on a colourist using it freaks me out.

  • Version 14 has just come out and they're making some pretty big claims with regards to improvements to the editing side of things so it'll be interesting to see if it's true.

If you run your own shop and do any sort of conform/finishing then the full version of resolve is a no brainer, and if you don't do much after effects work it could be worth migrating but I do the majority of my work at post houses and agencies and they're all Avid or Premiere, I haven't ever even opened fcpx because I don't know a single house that uses it and there's no point in learning software that no one will pay me to use.

  • I've been on Affinity designer for a little while, it's decent, especially for the price and I'm sure it'll continue to improve. I still switch back to PS for some tasks, years of workflow can be a bit difficult to break. I never got onboard the CC subscription and stayed with my CS 5.5 but I only ever really used PS and a little Illustrator (On PC), tsk.

  • I've always wanted a 30" cinema display and now there's one for sale just round the corner for £175.

Is this a really bad idea?

  • They were great but a little outdated now. For the money not bad though. They do tend to suffer a little bit from the illumination problems and you'll probably have one or 2 dead pixels by now. Eizo make better screens but the cases are ugly by comparison, used Eizo are normally good value and much better for critical work.

  • There's oddly to potential ones I could get

a - £135 - no dead pixels, no murky areas on screen, includes the minidisplay to dual dvi adapter. BUT - apparently it goes black for a split second every now and again. I've googled this and it could potentially be the adapter or the graphics card, so it may or may not be an issue for me.

b - £175 - no dead pixels, as new, no adapter which'll add another £100 on top

I'm tempted to get both and try to make one a tv if I can figure out a way to hook up an Apple TV to it. HDMI 4K to dual dvi adapter anyone?

  • Apple cinema displays are dodgy with anything but the correct gen products.

  • sshh... don't ruin the dream

  • What specific Acrobat functions do you need a replacement to do? e. g. cropping, page shuffling?

  • Work iPhone has inexplicably died. Was working totally fine, on about 50% battery, plugged it in to the charger I normally use and all of a sudden no response whatsoever, black screen. What do?

  • Nothing that complex! Just to be able to enter text into a PDF form.

  • Tried a reset? Hold the Lock and volume down buttons

  • How long has it been? My 5s went through a period of turning off with battery left. Came back on hours later after being plugged in to charge.
It's stopped doing it now, prob happened 3 or 4 times in total.

  • About 90 min. If it still fucks around by the time I'm at my desk it's IT's problem.

  • I think preview will let you do that and then save a new version etc

  • Apple charger or 3rd party?

Don't mention the 3rd party charger to anyone if there was one.

  • @Dammit: Or Adobe Reader I think. Acrobat is for creating/editing more complex PDFs.

  • Back on now, looks like it was this. Odd that it seemed to be plugging it in that triggered it. When it came back on the battery was nearly empty.

  • I'm tired of the reflections in the screen on my 15" MBP current gen.
Anybody know of a screen protecter film thing I can stick on it that is matte?

  • iOS 11 is out - get pludging, people!

  • My iPhone 6 that I owe is fucked, should I wait till the 8 is out and just get a 7 for cut price for folk desperate to upgrade to the new and best or is there anything else I should look at. Maybe the SE or 6s?

I'm gonna buy outright and dont mind buying 2nd hand.

  • So updated iPhone 6 to ios11 but no new emojis??? Any ideas

  • 6 and 6s ain't that much different, so if you need to buy a new iphone, probably at least a 7 I would think. That said, I will be selling my 6s plus to cash in for the x, so if you want a 2nd hand 6s plus, then we could talk.
