Any rec's for good value scales that are spill-proof?
Currently use On-Balance dealer jobbies from the weed emporium in town but they fried after a spill so buy cheap buy again etc.

I've just PMed Steve as I also need more coffee.

Recommend me my first set of proper coffee cups?(both cappuccino and espresso sized)
I like the old vereco glass ones that are all over Ebay.
Cheap n cheerful and the right size. If they look snazzy enough to go with my madmen-esque decor then even better. -
• #13264
These are the nicest cups I've used.

D'ancap are also good

I've found that for espresso, the thicker the stoneware the better the taste. Porcelain doesn't work as well for me and luckily, the basic stoneware commercial cups are way cheaper.

I've been drinking this for a while now and it's really good. Excellent crema not to strong and £6.99 for 1kg

I can also second d'ancap. Inker & Acme are also good, if you like the cup a tad thicker, and a pretty sweet variety of colours.

I think unless you want to spend £80+ for the fancy waterproof types, you're probs best off sticking to the cheap ones. I've used something similar to this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/High-precision-Multifunctional-Back-Lit-Stainless-Batteries/dp/B01JKX4QAC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505582448&sr=8-1&keywords=digital+scales+0.01
in most places I've worked, and they are pretty forgiving usually. If they get a bit wet, quite often just taking out the batteries and leaving them somewhere warm for a while seems to revive them. -

I have my Rancilio and a box of goodies from the seller.
I have gone through the start up procedure and managed to produce 2 cups of coffee, need a finer grind I think as it's pouring through quite fast and not getting a crema.
By 5am tomorrow I'll probably be completely wired and a bit further along.

Thanks, I passed Bbq/Passion Fruit today and they guy there said pretty much the same. Will stick with tried & tested, making more effort to not soak.

What grinder are you using? I used to use a cheapo delonghi KG79 that I modded to get a finer grind, worked great for pressurised portafilters but didn't quite cut it with the Silvia. Ended up getting a Rocky for matchy matchy.

I have a retro looking kitchenaid burr thing we were given as a wedding pressie. Have just cleaned it out and whacked it right down and it's certainly looking better.
Has been fine up til now for pourover consistency. -

Nice one - Looks great. That Kitchenaid grinder, if you take it apart from the front starting with the adjuster knob you will be able to remove the spring loaded pin which engages the adjustment clicker. That way you will have stepless adjustment which you'll need as they're quite big jumps between each step. Wrap some PTFE tape round the adjuster threads to stop it moving under vibration.
Fucken A! Great result, well done.
