Stan's vs. Caffelatex. Stan's seems to win a lot. Now, I dunno. Is Stan's better for MTB perhaps? Maybe this was old formula?

Had a message from @motoko
"Seen you've been a big proponent of the flexible rubber mixed superglue for tyre cuts. Do you usually apply this when the tyre is deflated or inflated. Anything special I should pay attention to for application?"
If there is high pressure in the tyre it will make it hard to get the glue into the cut. So generally no or low air pressure.
Superglue sets faster in the presence of water so put glue on to the cut (or if using a tyre worm into the gap between worm and tyre) and add water (or spit)
@cycleclinic has a good video on his website.

Thanks very much.
The tyre I'm putting this in isn't setup tubeless (GP4season) but I'm guessing the technique is the same.

Everyone used to talk about Stan's in the MTB world. No doubt because they provided a way for people to convert their existing wheelsets to tubeless. And as a result for many people they have become synonymous with tubeless.

It was more the comments about Caffe not sealing that concerned me.
-
• #1307
Reading the @cycleclinic website, it seems Malcolm is a fan of the Caffe stuff. Perhaps the foaming action is good for road tyres?
Additional pluses
No Ammonia
Doesn't react as badly to CO2 if you need to use a cartridge. Others tend to separate. -
• #1308
I'd also guess in seven years they have improved their formula
Am thinking of switching to caffelatex from Malcolm's endoresement for road tubeless. They tyre man near me is going to start his own brand of Sealant soon, so may use that for off-road tubeless if cheaper than stans. Though to date stans has worked well for me.

Contact Kirk at Pacenti he is quick to respond.
Well you were right about that. But he said:
Our rims work with any brand of commercially available tubeless tape. Any of the popular brands work great, and we'll have more of our own soon.
So I'm none the wiser. By the formula @chiroshi came up with I'd need 22mm tape. But Stan's comes in 21, 25 or 27mm.
Should I go for 21 or 25mm?
-
• #1310
Since you're doubling taping, you could run the thinner tape slightly to each side so the layers still overlap but reach right to where you need them without messing up the hook.

This is exactly what I did on Halo Vapour rims. Worked a treat. (Ignore my puncture problems, they are tyre side)

Comin' atcha like Magaret Thatcher.

It is talking about tyres at MTB pressures.

• #1316
Find me a road tubeless comparison of that lot. It's all I've got until I start using this shit.

• #1317
Do I need an injector for that caffe latex stuff?
More shit to put into or around tyres. WTF

and
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/effetto-caffelatex-remover/rp-prod150133EDIT: No. Just use a chemist syringe.
-
• #1318
You need to get fluid in.
You can do this before you finish putting the tyre on the rim (though if it goes wrong this can be messy) or inject it in after you have got the tyre on.
That little bottle is designed for refilling sealant if you have had a puncture. Buy a big bottle and a syringe.
-
• #1319
Yeah, I'm getting a big bottle. Should be able to get a large syringe from a chemist or ebay.
There's no way I'd do the pour in method in my flat. One failure inside here and tubeless is going in the fucking bin.
The tyre is still up which is surprising as everyone else seemed to suggest they lost air pretty fast.

Here's a road sealant test: http://www.slowtwitch.com/Products/Things_that_Roll/Tires/Sealant_Test_-_Part_2_4155.html
Fucking using tubes. Useless.

• #1321
Stans syringe works well as it threads onto the valve stem.
-
• #1322
The 60ml Doc Blue bottle works as an injector if you take the valve core out, you get a free empty one with the 500ml pack.
-
• #1323
Cheers, I ordered a 1L Caffe Latex from @cycleclinic last night and a Stan's syringe from the amazon.
-
• #1324
This might work but I am pretty OCD and hate the idea.
-
• #1325
Just think of all the OCD fun you can have making sure the two layers are symmetrical.
Is it wrong?
Because if it is, you are wrong?
Are you wrong?
You don't seem to be because it worked.
So you are right.
Which means I am right.
