You mean to use the hdd that you will have taken out from the Mac, as an external drive? Or do you mean to replace the dvd drive with a second hdd and use that for time machine?
Yes with 1st option, no idea with 2nd option.
Time Machine is essentially a programme that saves stuff onto some external memory, so any hard drive will do.
My girlfriend has a mid 2012 MBP and it needs some upgrades due to the large image files she often works with.
While I'm putting in an SSD and bumping the RAM, If I put a second HD in a caddy, can it be used (solely) as the drive for time machine to save faffing around connecting external? Which she will never remember to do.
