  • I'm feeling very overtrained all of a sudden.

Just put in a request for a ropey old drum and bass song as well. Apologies in advance

  • Anyone keeping track of UTMB this weekend?

Predictions? I'm going one of Tollefson, Z Miller and Jornet for the main event and one of Sandes, Pommeret or Hawks for CCC.

  • ^ should be but instead occupied by my own planning fail. No early trains to Kidsgrove for GG start as it's a Sunday service so i'm going to bivvy down that way tonight, camp brekkie & coffee and then 'fastpack' the race. It's only a 4kg-ish handicap, but mentally a bit of a burden too when this was my planned 'fast' ultra attempt for the year. #firstworldproblemthough

http://racedrone.net/event/the-gritstone-grind for dot watchers I'm number 146 on the entry list. Smart money on Charlie Sharpe 118 to win.

@juanito @doubleodavey & @philpub (if you're ok to start) Hope you all have fun at Ladywell races!

  • Best of luck for a good night's sleep!

Shoulder still isn't quite right, but more of a problem turning in bed than running, and I managed 10 miles on Thursday no problem, rest yesterday. 37 miles on the bike today, just cos the weather's nice, and pretty confident I'm OK to run tomorrow. Definitely can't use over-training as an excuse anyway.

  • Good luck!

I've been putting together my own excel list of things i would need to have a go at this so-called fastpacking as it happens, would like to fit in a couple of weekends around the uk before we hit winter this year and then maybe head out to my dad's bit of NW france in the spring to spend a week or two running around the countryside/hills out there, returning every couple of days to shower properly and restock on fresh clothes and supplies.

  • First night back after a week holiday in Sussex with a beer every night and chips too. Was dreading it but it went ok! Thought I was going to vomit for the first 4 km or so, but then settled in, and did a leisurely 13 km. That's my new baseline, aiming to bump it up to 15km every second night in the next four weeks or so.

    Sounds excellent fun.
    *Adds to bucket list

  • A guy I race cx with has been doing it so have been keeping an eye on his progress. He finished early this morning, doubt he'll be lining up for the first round of the London CX league later today.

  • Ran leg 2 of the Leeds Country Way today. 11.1 miles in 1:31:52, should have been a fair chunk faster, simply couldn't be arsed it seems.
Got asked by a local club to stand in for an injured runner and was running with another non-club runner.

    Och well!

Ace. Top-tip: Don't plan on a down jacket for top plus silk liner for legs... works fine until the wind turns & picks up considerably! Cold legs aren't fun, even if core is toasty.

As France will stay warmer for a bit longer that is v.good plan.

  • Best of luck for a good night's sleep!

See above! Was also checking out a option for famuly visit campsite. Too crowded and rowdy though. Had a hedgehog visit in the small hrs trying to steal my brekkie pastry too, was good to see if a little startling when woken!

  • Ladywell 10's underway? FB live link?

  • 35 hilly in 7h19. Was 94th at 9 miles cp1 finished 47th so happy with pacing and running strong at finish but knackered.

Fastpacking meant full bag v.stable compared to half bag but was heavy on shoulders at end. Actual kit used in race <1kg inc snacks and drink I reckon!

Beer and Choco Milk like nectar on the train back as always.

Winner as predicted, he ran 4h54 inc being bitten by a dog.

  • Do people use knee supports at all?

    Do you find them beneficial?

  • I haven't used it overnight, or required it for an emergency but the SOL emergency bag may be worth a look. 100g and sub tennis ball pack size.

  • All the results are on @kent__ac on Twitter.

Great to put a face to a handle for @doubleodavey who ran well despite getting isolated.

I had a decent run, clocking 34:36, which is obviously where my fitness is.

@philpub had the run of the evening.

Overall a great event with some very sharp performances in the final race of the night.

  • Top work. Enjoy the recovery.

  • Ladywell race report tomorrow, but this might be my favourite photo from the event so far...

  • I have one of these but don't think I'd want to use it for a good nights kip. I carried on Escape from Meriden incase shit hit fan and I had to stop & wait for help.

Fwiw. I had Rab Bivi, Thermarest neo air x-lite & featherlite jacket. A small blanket or half bag would've been perfect for the legs.

  • Cool I'll check em on twitter. Picked up your result on strava, nice one!

  • I think it's one of those things you should only wear on advice of a physiotherapist. It could make things worse if you're not meant to be wearing it.

  • nice to meet you too.

just in case anyone was wondering what a 10000m looks like: https://www.relive.cc/view/1166656453

  • Mesmerising! Well done on your run.

@juanito - Good run. Just putting yourself through 25 laps when slightly off PB shape is hard work innit.

@rhb - Fantastic! Still can't quite get my head round what's involved, so "chapeau"!

My warm-up went well yesterday, 90 seconds/lap for 6k as pacemaker in the second race. 18:45 through 5k. The 2nd km was perhaps 2/3 secs too quick but other than that it was spot-on, and one guy stuck to me like glue throughout, but he must have been working too hard because he then faded. I wasn't going to carry on though...

Main event, and a few of us were planning on 80s laps (3:20k / 33:20 target). I won't blame the wind (much) but after the first km being spot-on, my pace slowed very slightly. One good thing to come of this was other runners sharing the pacing and I was trading places with a Clapham Chasers runner for most of the race. A couple of my club mates got away from me in the second half, but I wasn't fading too much. Halfway was around 16:45-50. Really had to dig in, and felt like I eased off very slightly just to keep going, but still managing 3:22-3:23 km splits.

33:20 obviously wasn't going to happen, so my focus switched to B-target, the V45 UK rankings! Current 2nd rank time was 33:48 (1st out of sight, 32:15!); I got to the bell in 32:30, so quicker than 78s lap required. I did manage to find another gear, as did the CC guy who was just a few metres ahead of me at this stage. Got a proper gurn on in the back straight, almost on his shoulder at the last curve, but he found his final gear and finished a couple of seconds ahead. Not to worry, keep going... 33:44 over the line. That'll do! I think if I'd let it hurt more in the middle of the race I could've run maybe 33:30, but given lack of training recently plus shoulder niggle, pretty happy with that. Cracking event, I reckon it'll catch on. :)

  • That's some speed 😀

So is that you 2nd V45 or was the other chap also Vet? Fantastic either way

  • Thanks! Yeah, 2nd V45 for me, pretty sure the other guy is a mere whippersnapper.

Speaking of rankings, I reckon we're chuffed as a club to have hosted the leading women's time for the year, and 11th all-time, Katrina Wootton running 31:45 in the A race. Amazing!
